Wine tastings in Oregon
 

We will be traveling to Oregon in September and are interested in visiting Oregon Wineries. We plan to be gone a week and are flying in and out of Portland.
Can someone help with an itinerary?

Oregon has several different AVA's, each with it's own set of Wineries, so where you want to go sort of depends on what type of wines you like to drink.
The Willamette Region is probably the best known and is outside Portland to the SW.
Be aware that most Oregon Wineries are small, not the Napa Valley assembly lines you may expect. Some have tours, most accept visitors, but it takes some research, after which you will be richly rewarded.

The Oregon Wine Advisory Board publishes the Oregon Winery Guide, available free at tourism offices (we got ours at the Oregon Trail Museum in Oregon City). You can also go to their website at www.oregonwine.org and download information. You'll need the guide to help you locate the wineries and determine when they are open. While some are open 7 days, many are open only on weekends or a couple of days a week. My personal choice for a gem is Torii Mor. Be sure to try their Port!

The Archery Summit and Domaine Drouhin wines are very nice. We also like Ponzi, but not quite in the same league as the first two I mentioned. :) ***kim*** ((l))

You do have to drive around to the diff wineries and it's fun but be careful (Desig. Driver anyone?). Stay overnight in the Willamette valley if you can. Check out Youngberg HIll, we stayed there, great place, nice owners, wonderful breakfast.

If you get the chance to drive into Southern Oregon, make sure to stop by Troon Vineyards and Wooldridge Creek, both near Jacksonville. I had the most pleasant visit at both places last July, and was able to speak directly to the winemaker at Wooldridge Creek and get an impromptu tour. Very fun, and so unexpected since that would never happen in Napa. Anyway, the Southern Oregon region is a gem. Loved my trip and will be returning again this summer.

Yes, very nice. They also carry the Dobbes Family wines, we love their Pinot Noir. Paschal makes a really nice Pinot Gris that I first tasted when we dined at the Peerless. They now carry Patricia Green wines,we really like her Pinot Noir, also. Cheers! ***kim*** ((l))
