Wine tasting in New York (state)?
 

Some friends and I are looking to get out of NYC and do some wine tasting. Any suggestions for good locations/vineyards that are close enough to drive to from Manhattan for one night? (thinking a max of 2 and half hours each way)

I think this may be more than 3 hours from Manhattan.

I don't remember details... but California friends who are "winos" spent a lovely time awhile back on the North Fork on Long lsland. Perhaps someone else will know more than I.

There are several wineries on the North Fork of LI - should be within 2.5 hours by car unless you go on a summer Friday.

According to google maps, Bully Hill is over a 5 hour drive so too far for just one night.
North fork seems like a great option though. If anyone has been there and can recommend specific vineyards (there seem to be an awful lot) please let me know

I agree head to the north fork of Long Island it is a great area, however...try to avoid heading out on a Saturday morning if its before Labor Day. Everyone will be heading out east to the hamptons for the weekend and traffic can get to be a nightmare!

A thousand years ago we went to Brotherhood winery for a tour and taste testing. It tasted like different variations on socks.

Depending on when you plan on visiting, you might be able to go a lot further heading upstate in the same amount of time then heading out to Long Island (which can be grossly congested at peak times).

There are a couple of wineries in the Poughkeepsie area. It's about 75-90min from Manhattan, the most popular being Millbrook winery.

You could overnight in Rhinebeck or Poughkeepsie where there are quite a few good restaurants we can recommend.

Nearby to the Millbrook winery is Innisfree gardens which makes for a lovely stroll or a picnic lunch.

There are many, many wineries on the North Fork, and a few on the South Fork, that welcome visitors.



You can usually drive to the NF from Manhattan in about 2 hours or so..
