Wine on the Islands
Will be traveling to Maui & Kaui next month and really enjoy good wines. Can anyone help as far as wine/ liquor stores (specialty) and maybe are there any wine bars? Thanks Greg

I'm not sure of the name, in Maui, I think it was Super Liquor in a strip mall on the way out of the airport, past the harley dealership....yes this sounds lame but I know you will find it. It is a huge store, warehouse style with a fabulously educated staff that is excited about their wines. We brought home a few Swanson Alexis bottles at a great price. Stopped in for a bottle of Absolute and left about 45 minutes later with a bunch of red. Good luck

I'm also interested in restaurants with extremely good wine lists any help?

Greg: I can't help with liquor stores or wine bars, but you might be interested in visiting the winery on Maui. The wine "ain't" great, but there is a tasting room and the setting is very beautiful. Picnic tables available on the grounds. We enjoyed our visit and brought some wine back (especially a pineapple dessert wine)to give as gifts. The recipients are still friendly with us!

Tedeschi Vineyards
P.O. Reasonably good wines ($15-$45/bottle) are readily available in the well stocked supermakets...Safeway and Star on Maui...also check Costco near the airport...the deli (Cafe Ciao)at the Kea Lani Hotel has a great selection of interesting wines...and you can always bring a couple of bottles of your favorites...I took 3 bottles in January, in my carry-on knapsack...security wanted to look at them, but were fine because the bottles were sealed and I am over 21!
