Wine Country - where to have a picnic?

My boyfriend and I will be in California (Healdsburg) mid September. One of the days I would love to have a picnic in a beautiful scenic spot (probably at one of the wineries). Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Lambert Bridge or Armida.

Try Preston which is a lovely small winery on West Dry Creek...
I know of a great vacation rental overlooking the Russian River.... not too pricey either.

Check out Everett Ridge Winery on West Dry Creek Road. The picture on their website is what the view looks like from their picnic area (Beautiful). Armida also has a very nice picnic area. You can also play bocce ball if you want.

Views or gardens? Fancy or rustic?

Field Stone has a nice rustic picnic area under the oaks overlooking the vineyards, if you're over in Alexander Valley.

Lambert Bridge has *very* pretty gardens -- probably the best in the Healdsburg area (along with Ferrari-Carano). But there's not much of a view.

Everett Ridge has stunning views, maybe the best I've seen in the area. There's a bocce ball court there too, and a few small ponds.

We had our picnic on the grounds of Chateau St. Jean. It was lovely. (Sonoma)

Staying in Healdsburg in late Aug and have heard there is a great pre-picnic stop in Oakville, called the Oakville Grocery. Have never been but are planning on stopping by and grabbing the fixin's for a great picnic lunch there!!

This list seems like a good choice of picnic spots, thanks! Can't wait!

Okay, kleroux, I'll bite. What is the name of the "great vacation rental overlooking the Russian River.... not too pricey either"????
Thanks,
Speedy

Oakville grocery is okay. Two other places where picnics can be purchased are at the Jimtown store and my favorite, the Hoffman House Cafe near Geyserville. Try the Crab Reuben. http://www.hoffmanhousecafe.com/

Now we're talking, Linda! :) Crab reuben sounds delicious. Anybody know of some good overnight spots like kleroux teased us with on the post above?

I loved the Oakville grocery....granted it was many moons ago. They had a huge selection of goodies.

Ledson, Preston & Ferrari-Carrano would likely top my list.

I love the view from Iron Horse Winery & Gary Farrell Winery both in the Russian River area.

Oakville Grocery is a great spot right on the square to get your picnic goods.

A friend of ours just bought Everett Ridge. I hear the views and the winery are stunning.
