Wine country quick tour- day trip??
 

is it possible to do a quick day long trip to wine country from SFO? Not too far off.. what ever is closest to the city... a short loop.. few wineries.

What would you recommend? We've never been so I would like a short little intro trip to wine coutnry so I can tour in detail in another trip!

I've taken a couple of one day trips to Sonoma with pleasure. I'd google something like "Sonoma wine tour" and you'll get lots of tour companies.

One of the easiest is north on the 101 to Healdsburg then tour the Russian River and/or Dry Creek Valley wineries before returning on the 101.

Or, for a loop, cross the Golden Gate on the 101 and then take take 37 to the 121 which will connect to the 12 in Sonoma, visit several tasting rooms on the Square in Sonoma and then the 12 up the valley and visit as many wineries as you want beore reconnecting to the 101 in Santa Rosa and turning south.
There too many other options to go into, just look "google" a Sonoma county wine map and you'll get lots of choices.

I'm now thinking of combining the Sonoma wine country trip (overnight) with the Big Sur on Hwy 1 and then back to SFO.


What is the best route for this 2day one night itinerary? Suggestions?

From SFO to Healdsburg via #101 allow 2 hours... except on Friday night when its at least 3. From Healdsburg down to Monterrey/Carmel allow 4 hours.. using 19th ave and I think its #280 to San Jose and then on to Carmel. That is a lot of driving for 3 days... I'd pick one or the other. The wine country has so much to see. You can make loops from Healdsburg over to Napa Valley and around to the town of Sonoma and back to Hbg...that can take a day with stops along the way. Then around Healdsburg there is both the Alexander Valley and Dry Creek, plus the Russian River wineries...come and enjoy this area first.
