Wine Country Picnic

Hi everybody:

Anybody enjoyed a picnic at either Clos Du Val in Napa or Clos Pegase in Calistoga?

Clos Du Val Picnic : http://www.closduval.com/visit-us/#
Clos Pegase Picnic : http://www.clospegase.com/tastings

A bunch of us are going to Wine County in May and would love to picnic at one of these places. Any feedback? The group is pretty laidback and not super knowledgeable about wine. Would prioritize experience/ambience/customer service over quality of wine (sorry if that is blasphemy!)

Or if there are others, please feel free to suggest!

Thanks in advance!

I am going to Napa this weekend with a Bachelorette party, have heard good things about some place called V. Sattui, but that it gets crowded too. Anyone know is it fun?

What kind of customer service? I expect you'll have to put together your own picnic for the most part; the Italian deli in St. Helena works well.

In Sonoma I really like the Dry Creek General Store for picnic fixings -

You can have your picnic at any number of wineries.

Thanks everybody. At Clos Pegase, they are putting together a picnic for us for $20 pp. Its nothing gourmet (fruit, potato salad, sandwiches and brownie from Oakville Grocery). But its a good option for people who don't want to put together their own picnic.

Anyway, you have suggested some good deli and general store options. We might just do this.

Thanks
Manisha

Natalie 1989...Sattui does get crowded but they have a pretty extensive picnic area. You will probably end up sharing a picnic table with others. It all Depends on the day and the time. good deli and good wine.

We ended up doing a picnic at Clos Pegase one day and V. Sattui another. Both were VERY NICE places. Quite different.

Clos Pegase is less busy, more peaceful and serene. You cannot bring food from outside but if you tell them in advance, they can arrange a boxed lunch from Oakville Grocery for you for $20 a person (it included fruit, potato salad, a choice of sandwich -most were yummy and a brownie). We also did tastings with our lunch. After the lunch, this very nice chap called Alex gave us a tour of the grounds and the caves LOVELY!

V. Sattui is nice if you are looking for a lively, bustling atmosphere. They have a nice deli on site where you can order both cold, hot food. REally its like a gourmet grocery store as you can buy wine, cheese, chocolate, meats, bread, olives.

Hope that helps other people looking for picnic spots in Wine Country
