Wine Country around San Diego, Riverside

Does anyone have a recommendation for wineries to visit in the Escondido, Temecula areas? I will be there in a couple of weeks, driving from San Diego to Las Vegas and want to stop on the way at a couple of wineries. Thanks.

Lots of wineries in Temecula to pick from. You exit at Rancho California road off I15, go about 4 miles and the wineries start. There are about 20 of them along a 3 mile stretch with some of the smaller ones on side streets. Thornton, Callaway, Ponte, Wilson Creek are some of the bigger wineries.
Thornton has a very nice restaurant and Ponte also has a cafe that is a little more reasonably priced.

I was out there on Friday for a quick trip, picked up a Syrah at Ponte to give to my daughter for her birthday. Check out this website-they have information about each winery.

The Belle Marie winery in Escondido is a pretty setting-don't know much about their wine.

I visited Wilson Creek winery (Temecula) which I really enjoyed- they had an almond flavored champagne which they mixed with port and served in a chocolate shell - it was quite delicious

Don't really like champagne that much but love the Almond Champagne at Wilson Creek.

my husband and I visited the area in April, and stayed at the South Coast Winery Resort in Temecula. They had a busy tasting room, and their wine was the best of the few wineries we tried.

Cafe Champagne at Thornton Winery has very good food, too, and their champagne is well known.

Ponte was a cute place but didn't like their wines at all. But I'm a red wine lover.
