Message: I am going to be in the area for a wedding and we are staying at the Doubletree Hotel Sonoma Wine Country in Rohnert Park, CA for a couple days for a wedding. Does it make sense to extend my stay there for an extra two days to explore the wineries or would we be better off moving to a different hotel further north closer to the wineries? I am not familiar with the area at all and may not want to rent a car. I would like to stay with in walking distance of some really good wineries and restaurants. Does anyone know of a nice place to stay that offers the above close by.

To visit wineries you really need a car
or hire a limo. These are large places
encompassing many acres of vineyards,
so the tasting room facilities are not
really walking distance to and from one another.
You could move to either the town of
Healdsburg (a tad North of Santa Rosa/Rohnert Park)or Sonoma (30-40 mins south and east of Santa Rosa) if you want a square to walk around with a bounty
of great restaurants on each.
Each of theses town sqares will have
retail shops representing many wineries and/or a few boutique
wineries-you can purchase tastes here,
but won't have the charm of actual wineries.
I suppose, you could stay at the Doubletree-probably one of the most affordable
hotels in the county-Santa Rosa is fairly central to the entire county-
and visit Healsdsburg one day and the Sonoma area the next.
Time of year and $$$ you want to spend
should be considered, as well as
do you seek red or white wine or
pretty locations. Do get a map and ask us more questions.

thanks for the information!! where can I look into get a car service or rental in the area? I think that is my best bet.
