Windsor, CT

I'm looking for a nice suburb to research in the Hartford area. Can afford up to 310,000. How is Windsor for price, neighborhood, school district? Thanks to all.

Jen

Wouldn't making a trip to Windsor for first-hand analysis be warranted? I think I would before investing a third of a million dollars and dragging my children there.

If diversity is what you are looking for, Windsor is a good choice. It borders the north end of Hartford. Thus, the schools and neighborhoods are integrated. I taught in windsor for 11 years. There are very good teachers and others that should retire just like in any town. It has convenient highway access because I91 cuts through it. I agree with Neatl, though. Before making any decision, you should come see the town.

Windsor has become much more diverse over the last few years. Their schools are usually ranked at the bottom in comparison with other CT towns. You might want to check out Glastonbury or other towns in the Farmington Valley. I believe South Windsor is desirable although pricier than Windsor. Suffield & Granby are also worth considering although they are a little further than Windsor. If you seek diversity, try West Hartford. I'd avoid East Hartford as crime has escalated. CT real estate is high however you should be able to find something nice in a good school district for your price range.

I can think of a lot better ways to "research the Hartford area" than posting an anonymous question on a travel website.

For starters, I would think most travelers couldn't care less about the school systems of the locations that they're visiting.

You could go to the State of Connecticut website, then link to the municipalities page.

http://www.state.ct.us/munic.htm

This provides a comprehensive listing of all websites available for the 169 towns and cities in Connecticut as well as the Connecticut State Department of Education web page for accessing Strategic School Profiles, a town-by-town, school-by-school assessment based a standard set of categories.

Ken, Neal - LIGHTEN-UP! jen is asking for an opinion, what makes you think what is said here, on this site is the "end-all" if you have something to offer on the topic offer it, enough of the critical bull-shit -

I suggest you take a look at connecticutmag.com and visit their site on rating the towns. In the Hartford area, West Hartford, Glastonbury, and Simsbury are the nicest towns. The schools are excellent, but the real estate is a little pricey.

Glastonbury is becoming overbuilt and overpriced.

A Glastonbury resident
