Wilshire Blvd?
We are stopping over in LA on our way to Tahiti and will be staying at the Ramada on Wilshire Blvd. How is the neighborehood, is it safe to walk around day nad night, and how close is it to Hollywood. Any suggestions would be great.

Griff,

Unfortunately, it's not in a very good part of town. It's a bit west of downtown, and I personally would not want to be walking in that area day or night. If you're staying just one night, you might as well book an airport hotel.

Jane

Griff,
It's not the greatest area. If you are only in town one night, why not stay near the airport? It's a quick drive to the beach communities and you could drive to Hollywood also.
Griff,

I live Southern California and I wouldn't stay there. The hotel is in the Rampart Police Station area which, along with South Central, is the murder capital of Los Angeles.

Terry

Griff,

I would fire the travel agent who booked you into this place.

Before departing on your trip, it would be advisable to update your will.

DN

This hotel is just down the street from where rapper Notorious B.I.G. was gunned down two or three years ago.

Although parts of Wilshire Blvd. are nice, (Miracle Mile, Beverly Hills area, Santa Monica)I just checked the website for this hotel and unfortunately it IS in a nasty part of town. Try to get another hotel, there are some great ones out there, Santa Monica, West Hollywood, or even the neighborhood around LAX, though not my first choice in terms of pretty or interesting, would be better then this particular place.

I lived not far from there for a few years recently and have nothing to complain about. It's converted from a high-crime area to a very working-class, immigrant area. This means you can get some good Korean and Mexican food for cheap!
I wouldn't walk around there, but that's because I'm a true Angeleno and always need a car. However, there is a metro stop nearby that will whisk you to Hollywood in a few short minutes.

Stay south of the airport in one of the beach cities like Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach or Redondo Beach. It's only 15 to 20 minutes away.
|
Don't stay there!
I was once fooled by the wilshire name, but never again.
Change to the airport renaissance or try either renaissance, holiday inn, or residence inn in beverly hills.

I live near there. As safe or safer than Hollywood. Safe enough to walk around in daytime, but be careful at night. Good restaurants nearby. Most people there are Central American or Korean. Great Korean restaurants, cheap, but the menus are in Korean and the servers speak hardly any English. The subway is right across the street and will whisk you to downtown and the valley, but be careful who gets on the subway elevator with you.
