Wilmington hotel/restaurant
I will be driving from Massachusetts to Norfolk, Va with my mother in early December. It looks like the Wilmington area is about half way. Can anyone suggest a hotel and/or restaurant for us that would be easy to find. My mother is handicapped and uses a wheelchair so accessibility is important. Thanks.

There's a nice Sheraton convenient to Route 95 (call them) and they have a AAA room rate (was non-cancellable when I called for a November date). I think they have a restaurant. Hotel DuPont has restaurants and great theatre-more upscale but not too bad. Again, call or check on the Wilmington Delaware web site. Also look at the Delaware threads here-there are some suggestions for places in the Italian section of town. Good luck!

I dont know how wheelchair accessible it is but you could try:
http://www.dupont.com/hotel/index1.htm The Brandywine Best Western is definately accessible since I have gone with my mom who is in a wheelchair. There is also a days inn on 202 which can sometimes have a rough crowd but the rooms are accessible, cheap and clean. the area is in the midst of shopping. If it is nice weather Longwood Gardens is beautiful this time of year and very accessible. http://www.brandywineinn.com/ |
I just made reservations to stay at the duPont. Since suffering a bad stroke, my mother has not travelled much and this would make the trip to visit her sister more of a treat. Thank you for your help.

I've stayed at the DuPont several times, it is a really nice hotel! There are some rooms that are bigger than others -- you might want to call ahead and let them know you would appreciate a bigger room.

There are a few restaurants within the hotel. A block away, Deep Blue is a very nice, upscale, modern, not stuffy, seafood restaurant.
