williamsburg with toddler
 

I will be traveling to wiillinmasburg VA mid august. any recomendations. we just booked and could use some suggestions on things to do. hubby isn't huge on history but deals with it for me. we enjoy outdoors, need kid friendly (2 yrs old)dinig and attractions. How much time do I really need for historic attractions.. we have one week.

my son was 1 1/2 when we went to williamsburg 2 years ago.

we took a day to drive aorund to jamestown and yorktown, letting the boy out periodically to run around, and he was fine.

another day we went to colonial williamsburg - a lot of walking there again, and demonstrations and buildings to visit with people in costumes that he found very interesting.

a third day we went to newport news (30 min away?) to the virginia living museum, more like a zoo than a museum, and ds loved it!! very easy to find. only heard of the place from a brochure at the hotel.

LOTS of eating places around suitable for toddlers, we ended up at cracker barrel a couple of times and a buffet called golden corral. lots of buffets nearby the 'hotel row' and a little drive out of the area. went to a bbq place a little ways out and it's fine. many diners didn't blink an eyelash at a toddler.

i love the area, i'm sure you'll have a great time.

Machbird, I appreciate the sample itinerary! I think we will be doing the living museum, I read up on it and I think my little guy would like it.

just had a great time with friends and all our toddlers at Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg (plus stayed cool in the water)

Great Wolf Lodge is a good suggestion - my daughter's 8th grade class stayed there on their class trip.

We've stayed at Kingsmill Resort - very family friendly - nice pools - indoor and outdoor. Shuttles to Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg and Water Country. Williamsburg is one of our family's favorite destinations.
