Williamsburg Virginia First Night 2006
We are planning on taking our kids (ages 3 & 1) to First Night in Williamsburg for NYE. Has anyone done this-is it worth it? Any advice on good, affordable restaurants for NYE? We have 3 days and 2 nights to explore-any suggestions? Specifically, we need a good idea for an early New Years Eve meal with the family! Thanks!

Probably one local favorite would be great for your family: Sals by Victor, in Williamsburg Shopping Center at Richmond Rd and Monticello.
It's not fancy: pizza, grinders/subs, pastas, meat and poultry. Pretty good food, pretty good service, reasonable prices.

"the delis" are right across the street from W&M stadium and near some of the venues. Green Leafe will have a broader, more interesting menu, Paul's more casual. Both are student hangouts but will be quiet early in the evening. Aromas down the street on Prince George is a coffee cafe but has a decent dinner menu. Sal's is a short drive down Richmond Rd from W&M.

I always ask for "Della" to be my server at Sals by Victor. I stop there everytime I visit and usually have the "Chicken Victor".
Whereever you eat, check the coupons in the various tourist books given out, as well as those multi-colored "tickets" found in most hotel lobbies. With those in hand, you can save 10% almost anywhere. Keep the booklets in your car.
During your stay, try Pierce's BBQ. Again, not a fancy place and it's "pick up your tray & find a table" service, but "durn good". Maya Casa on Richmond Rd is pretty good Mexican, and not a chain.

Hi Birdie-
I've been very busy with job & life, and even haven't been here much lately. I have no current plans to be in Wbg - bummer - and only got there twice in 2006 - and to think I've been there maybe as much as 8x a year in the past! I've been yearning for a chance to get down there, beleive me! Hmm.. interesting about your new neighbor.
I sure miss not having the Governor Spottswood for lodging. Has anything happened with that property yet? And also, Merry christmas.
