Williamsburg trip planning

Just starting to think about traveling to Williamsburg next April school vacation and doing the historic triangle. We can fly from TF Green in Prov. or Logan. Which airport is best to fly into down there for proximity? Also, is it possible to do a day trip to Monticello - haven't been since I was a kid on a family car trip. Is it worthwhile to stay in one of the Colonial Williamsburg hotels? We will have a rental car of course.
We will be three adults and a fourteen year old. Is the Woodlands a noisy place? Thanks for your responses.

Hi,
I don't know that I can help with all your questions, but ...

Probably the best airport to fly into would be Norfolk. However, if routes/prices are better, you could also fly into Richmond.

A daytrip to Monticello is doable, but a long day. Charlottesville is a couple of hours each way from W'Burg and if there is traffic around Richmond, it could be longer. Charlottesville is a neat town and would be worth an overnight, but it may be too out of the way or not worth the detour depending on how much time you have and how busy your itinerary is.

I don't know the Woodlands.

Happy travels!

Look at Airtran from Logan to PHF (Newport News). They have the best fares especially when they run sales. PHF is only 1/2 hr from Williamsburg. If those flights don't work for you I would look at USair to PHF, or RIC (Richmond) or Southwest to ORF (Norfolk).
Day trip to Monticello is very doable. I have done it.

We stayed at the Woodlands about 10 years ago and got a combo package with an American Girl theme (Felicity) that combined a tour with a guide, the hotel, the taverns, Busch Gardens and the water park. It was a $500 savings at the time. You can do research but we really enjoyed it. Pocahantos was huge at the time and we also visited Jamestown. The room at the Woodlands was a 2 room affair with a king size in bedroom and a Murphy bed for the kids in the living room, which worked very well for us. I don't remember it as luxurious, but definitely worth being "on property".
