Williamsburg in the Winter? Other DC area wknd trips?
A friend and I are looking for a weekend trip around the DC area. Have been to Philly NY, and Baltimore. Someone suggested Willamsburg but not sure about going in the winter. Any thoughts or other suggestions around the area within 3-4 hours drive? Thanks for any insights!

Actually, it gets hideously humid and hot in Williamsburg in the summer, so while fall or spring would be best, I'd pick winter as a close third. And it's not awfully cold in general--I'd bundle up and go.

Williamsburg is pretty quiet in Jan and Feb. There are some reduced hours in the restored area but nothing that would keep you from enjoying the experience. No crowds.
Daytime temps are normally in the 40s tho (like in DC) things have been abnormally chilly the last week or so.
Supposed to be 60 on Monday.
What are you all looking to do?
Consider the Outer Banks if you want some good peace and quiet time. I've spent winter weeks there and found the (relative) solitude heavenly.

We like Old Town Alexandria. Visit Mt. Vernon and other DC sites.
If you would like to splurge, stay at morrisonhouse.com -- First Class place.
Have a pint at Murphy's Pub and walk up & down King Street with all the antique shops and restaurants.
