I feel like I'm reading an article in our local paper - these are lots of the arguments that people in the community, as well as long-time visitors, have been having for as long as I've been living here (not too long, but I did grow up in this area). The buildings and night programs at CW are really cool. The other neat thing is that some of CW's ex-employees (some very talented interpreters) are holding some of theiw own programs which range across the board of topics. A couple of great African American programs are running around town. All in all, I love CW and our Good Neighbor Pass entitles us to a year's tickets too all of the buildings and some programs for free. I do think, however, that management of CW could be greatly improved - it is a non-profit and run like the worst of non-profits. What a shame because it has so much to offer - just not for the budget-conscious! Sorry for my tirade - enjoy your visit! :)

And as with the locals, some of what is being shared here is misinformation. The plan is to have a program over two days, called "Revolutionary City." Day 1 will be pre-Revolutionary, and Day 2 will focus on Revolutionary events. The intent is to bring into focus more clearly how we went from being the subjects of the King of England to being citizens of the United States. The events (presentations) will take place in an area in and near the Capitol daily, with day 1 and day 2 being in constant rotation, so that area will be blocked off for two hours every day. The idea is to actively engage those people within the "Revolutionary City" who will be interpretors, actor/interpretors, etc., and the visiting public, who will need to have a ticket to be there.
The remainder of the time, the streets will remain open to joggers, dogs and their walkers, unticketed visitors, etc. Hope that clears up some of the questions.

Yes, the Revolutionary City is a CW program, beginning in March. I love the idea and I hope it works to increase attendance and more fully engage the visitors. I live outside Williamsburg; there were articles in local papers over the last week or two about the program. (Daily Press, Richmond Times-Dispatch, Virginia Gazette.)

Sorry Julidiane, that question was addressed to Rb but I often forget my rules of grammer when I am typing into this forum. Rb contributes often to this forum since he travels to the Williamsburg area often. We have been discussing a possible get together so watch this site for possible dates!

Birdie - I have no trip planned at this time, but am trying to juggle a trip for Grand Illumination. OBXGirl and JoyInVirginia (?) are 2 others who post often when it's about the greater "Tidewater" area. If I try to get something together I'd have "Williamsburg" in the title, maybe its own thread. (I am from Schenectady NY area)
