Williams lodging

Planning a trip in Aug-Sept. Want to stay in Williams and take train into the Grand Canyon. Is there any decent lodging in Williams, seems the reviews I read are not very favorable for Williams. Why is this? Thanks.

Last summer we spent two nights at the Canyon Motel in Williams. It is a well-run place with two caboose cars and a train car that you can stay in, as well as regular cottage rooms. It is a motel so don't expect anything fancy, but it is clean and offers a free continental breakfast and a nice indoor swimming pool, play area, fire pit and very friendly, informative owners. We stayed one night in a caboose and the other night in the pullman car -- we preferred the latter. Although the caboose had two separate rooms with a bathroom in the middle (and bunk beds in one bedroom), the pullman car felt more spacious and had a bigger bathroom. I'm not sure about the regular rooms.

We found Williams to be a cute little town. We arrived in the evening and went into town for dinner. The next morning we were picked up at the motel by Marvelous Marv who drove us to the Grand Canyon and provided a wonderful "insider" tour. When we returned to the Canyon Motel we took a quick dip and went back into town for another surprisingly good dinner and a nice stroll along the streets.

It was a great trip and I'd do it all over again! Have fun!

I thought the people who run the train also hav lodging there. Have you booked on their web site yet?

We have stayed at the hotel run by/adjacent to the train. Nothing fancy but clean and convenient. Part of a package with breakfast and dinner included
