will travel...need food
Okay, really crazy post, however here goes...my husband and I will be traveling from South Ga. all the way to Quebec by vehicle. This is our first long trip about 32 hours. We usually fly. This is where I need your help. What is your favorite travel snack? looking for some interesting new ideas. I can make, bake or buy. Thanks for indulging me. Michelle

How about these for starters:

rice krispie treats but we add peanut butter and put melted chocolate in the middle.

We make a point of NOT carrying snacks because we feel that stopping for rest rooms and a little walk around is important. So we make it a point to stop at a fast food place even if it's only for french fries or a sweet roll, make a pit stop, stretch a bit. We used to take snacks, but we found that we really needed to take a longer break from riding. Don't drink too much, or the pit stops have to come more frequently.

Craisin blondies.

pepperoni, summer sausage, crackers, brie and/or other cheeses. bottled water.

I also make rice krispie treats and add a huge spoonful of peanut butter to the marshmallow before adding the cereal. Then I melt a cup of milk chocolate chips and a cup of semi sweet chocolate chips (1/2 that amount is okay too) and spread it over the top. Stick it in the fridge to harden the chocolate then cut them into squares and put them in a ziplock.

well of course you have to carry a few things in the car with you but i agree with aileen about getting out and stretching. i think you should bake some fabu brownies or choc chip cookies to eat after the yummy ceasar salad with dressing pack or fresh sandwich you can pick up in the deli of virtually every grocery.
or you might make crostini's and a topping (toms,on,olives, etc) for something fancy. do not travel without chocolate! and you will need to be fruit free by the border i'm guessing. |
hard rolls and presliced cheese
bottled water red licorice and or tootsie pops trail mix in little baggies: we like almonds or peanuts, plain m&ms, raisins, dried cherries, pretzels and plain goldfish in our mix When we stop for a break I like to walk laps around the gas station while my husband puts gas in the car. We sometimes buy a coffee or a soda at a gas station but the food is questionable if you are off the beaten path...how long HAS that candy bar been in that dusty gas station??!! Have fun! |
You must be lucky if you can sit idle in a car for hours and still do snacks. I have enough trouble not gaining weight when I'm busy and active. I avoid snacks while riding in a car like the plague!

it's a vacation...we're starving ourselves now. Thanks for the ideas.
