Will the weather pick up in So Cal?

Hi were arriving in San Diego 1st September before spending time in Laguna, Santa Barbara and Marina. Will the weather get any better nearer the time? We hoping for mid-high 80's what are the chances?
Cheers, Al

The weather will probably be VERY nice. It's nice right now-- a little hazy, but that burns off by early afternoon (and I'm right smack-dab on the coast in my office in Santa Monica, so I'm looking at it as I type this).

Mid-80s are a possibility in early September (a very good possibility indeed) in southern CA, but be aware that right on the coast it doesn't get much beyond 80 during the summer. And that's how we like it.

Well, down here in San Diego, the weather's great. I can see the coast from my house and the temp is 78. I'm not sure what you mean by "pick up"? It's rarely in the mid-80s at the beach, but is more than that inland right now.

Yes, I'm confused by what "pick up" means as well. The weather is very warm right now. Normally, it stays very warm in September - we sometimes have our warmest temps during Sept.

Do you mean will it cool down by then? Or warm up?

Allmoo Jul 27th, 2005 11:53 AM

sorry, when I say pick up I mean get warmer.

paula1470 Jul 27th, 2005 12:18 PM

Allmoo - I don't think we want it to be much warmer than it's been the last few weeks. Many areas over 100 F. September is often the hottest month in So. Cal although it usually isn't any hotter than it's been recently. However as Barbara and others have said, the beach rarely gets over 80 degrees which is a perfect temperature.
In September, you often don't have to deal with waiting for the early morning marine layer to burn off but there is never a guarantee of that.

Ah, okay! I really can't imagine things getting much hotter than it is already has been.

Temps in Sept along the coast should be in the 70s with a rare 80s if there is a heat wave. Inland area might get hotter by 10 to 20 degrees. Evenings should be cool by September, thankfully.

Sept is actually a good time to visit So Cal. Weather is still warm, evenings are nice, and ocean is warm(ish).

We need a separate board for weatherman related questions.

Good grief.

"What's the weather going to be 3 months from now 700 miles away from my computer?"

"Should I bring 1 sweater or 2 sweaters on our trip to the South Pole in the summer?"

"How much rain should we expect during the Monsoon season on our trip?"

Triple Sec - I agree there are some silly weather questions on this forum but give allmoo a break. If I remember right, they are from the UK and coming to California for their honeymoon. So you can see why they would want everthing to be just right.

I'm jumping in here. How does where somebody is traveling FROM impact our willingness to stomach kooky questions? It really does read as if allmoo is asking us to predict the weather.

I'm traveling to the UK in 2006 for 3 months. How many days will I need an umbrella?

C'mon, Paula.

Easy. All of them!
Look I wasnt asking or expecting antone to predict the weather I just wanted to know in general if early September was a hotter time than july.

Early September is, in general, hotter than July. September is usually our warmest month and nicest month (especially when the kids go back to school!). There are, of course, exceptions. Either this past September or the September before (all a blur to me now), it was cooler and even had a little rain.
