Will I need to rent a car in N.O.?

I am going to New Orleans in May and I am wondering if I will need to rent a car while there? Is it easy to get around without one?<BR>Thanks for any info.

Not if staying in or near the French Quarter ... I would recommend NOT getting a car ... it would be a big pain. Most locations within the quarter will be easy to walk to, or you can very easily grab a cab. If staying in the garden district you can utilize the trolleys.

Unless you want to go crazy, no. Even out in the Garden District you are only a short streetcar or bus ride away. And if you are in the FQ, your fet will get you anywhere quickly.

No, you don't need to get a rental car if you don't want to. But we rented one on our last trip there - we stayed outside the French Quarter at the House on Bayou Road - and used it to go to City Park and eat at Sid-Mar's in Bucktown and other places in Uptown.

You definitely do not need/want a car in New Orleans. If you decide to explore outside the city, you could rent a car for a day. But if you just want to visit a couple of plantations, there are many reasonable tours so you really don't even need a car for that.
