Will flights go on sale for Miami in early December?
I will be leaving for Miami (from Atlanta) on Dec. 4 and coming home the 12th. I keep thinking there is going to be a sale, but I haven't seen it yet.
AA is the cheapest at 244.20 (pp including tax) AND I got a coupon code to get 10% off (most flights) Should I go ahead and book, or should I hold out a little longer? |
I just looked in my crystal ball and it said that is the best you will do. LOL
Seriously, it sounds like a good price to me. I've always been amazed that it often costs more to fly from South Florida to Atlanta than it does to New York or even Los Angeles! But one never can guess these days when really low specials will take place. I would doubt anything below $199 and with your coupon you're almost there yet, so I'd go for it while you can. |
You ARE looking at Ft. Lauderdale as well, right? I know that from the West Coast FLL is often a helluva lot cheaper than MIA.
I'm a little surprised that AirTran wouldn't beat American on this route-- and on Travelocity you'll get both carriers. I'm with Patrick on this-- $244.20 is a good round trip to popular, high-volume MIA. I'd just grab it to ensure a seat, as that's heading into High Season for Florida tourism. Good luck! |
Remember that MIA is a major hub to the Caribbean and SA... also port to numerous cruise lines.
December is a major travel time. |
Air Tran to MIA is appox $225.00, but to Ft Lauderdale, it drops to $210.00.
|
That is a slow travel time.
Did you know Art Basel, a citywide art convention/show is going on in Miami during those dates? If you change airports, as rjw mentioned or tweak your dates, you may find lower fares. |
It has to be MIA NOT Ft.Lauderdale - I am going on a cruise (with an organized group with people from around the US) They pick me up from the airport and take me to the hotel :))
Yeah, I figured Miami in December would be busy ... I just thought MAYBE there would be an after Thanksgiving before Xmas price reduction ... but I am afraid to wait much longer. If I don't see it drop by 2nd week in September, I'll go for it. Thanks! :) |
You also might be able to get a voucher from the airline for the difference in cost if the price goes down after you have purchased your ticket.

This pricing surprises me. I got the same exact fare after taxes from Chicago to Ft.Lauderdale round trip during Dec. Jan and Feb. (coming winter '04-'05). I bought the tickets in June and was a little worried that the price would decrease also.
It hasn't at all. Right now on American, ATA and Southwest (Midway) the prices have only gone up or remained constant. Also the flights I wanted on ATA Midway airport are now full for afternoon departures on my dates- so I'm very glad I did it when I did. Regardless, it doesn't seem right that Atlanta to Miami would be virtually the same price as Chicago to Ft. Lauderdale. This is kind of like AT&T making southern Illinois twice as expensive as calling Florida, which was the case for many years. |
