Will ANYONE talk to me about Fargo, ND???
 

Haven't gotten anyone to reply re my inquiries about Fargo. By some quirk, we are going to be there on my birthday at the end of June. Reservations are at the Doublewood, but can change them if that is a bad choice. Also, any recommendations for a nice dinner there? Is "Bonanzaville" worth the visit? Any other "to do's" I should know about?? What to avoid. We are young retirees with eclectic tastes. Lke outdoors, history,pubs,people,fun places to eat. Would love to hear from someone. Thanks.

To the top so maybe jor will see this and reply. I don't know if he gets a lot of requests for Fargo but I believe he lives in the area.

Ok, went to school in Fargo so I'll try to help. Not familiar with the Doublewood in Fargo but stayed in the one in Bismarck. Assuming fairly similar. Seemed clean & adaquate. Never been to Bonanzaville so can't help. There are tons of good restaurants & bars tho. Your best bet is to go to Downtown area. There are lots (ok, so maybe not lots) of converted train stations, grain elevators etc which are now breweries & restaurants. We ate at a really good Mexican restaurant downtown last time we were there & it was on same street as old Fargo Theater (everyone will know where that is). There was a brewery across street that is good too. Also downtown is what used to be "Old Broadway". Not sure if that is still the name but it is on Broadway & you can gamble there. Jim Lauermans is a local establishment with awesome chili downtown. As for stuff to do. THe locals hang out at bars, the lakes, West Acres Mall. Not sure what else to tell you to do. If you don't mind an hour drive, the summer thing to do is go to Detroit Lakes area. They have nice lakes & restaurants in the area. Have fun & enjoy the accents. I go back a couple of times a year & I love how laid back life is there. No rush hour to plan around!!!

oh, if you want the best of local pubs, go across the river to Moorhead (2 min drive from Downtown) and go to Micks Office. It is the best of local pubs & locals that you will find. Pool tables, cheap beer, old regulars, awesome burger & chips!! (It is on 8th street in Fargo right over the river next to Taco Johns)

I travel to Fargo periodically on business. I do not know of the Doublewood. I always stay at the Radisson. Because I don't rent a car it is useful because they have an excellent shuttle service which will pick you up at the airport and take you to pretty much anywhere you want to go during you stay. Downtown is very quiet. I don't remember the name of the restaurant I ate at a few weeks ago but it was okay. I usually eat in the hotel dining room because it is actually very good but this time I wanted something different. The best thing about Fargo is the people, they are wonderful.

It's been a while but I use to travel on business often to Fargo. Always stayed at the Doublewood as it was the best in town at the time, as was their restaurant. Great prime rib but that was approx. 13/14 years ago.
Fargo is Roger Maris home town. If your a baseball fan there is a small display/museum of his "stuff" in the mall I believe.
Laid back town, freindly people, hotter than hell in the summer and colder than hell in the winter and VERY windy.

Forgot to mention that live blackjack is played in many bars including the Doublewood. Bets are limited but can be fun.
