You can't go wrong at Yellowstone. Any time you'll see elk and buffalo and other critters. It is a wonderful place. Anytime.

I agree ya can't go wrong....but to me if it were a multiple choice question, I would opt to hang out in Yellowstone in September...after Labor Day....when the crowds have lessened.. Also, I think the wildlife is at least as abundant, if not more so than anyother time...

I'll agree about a September visit right after Labor Day. The crowds are gone and the weather is great! As for animals, that's the mating seasoning, and you're sure to hear the elk bugling!

Also think mid-May to mid-June for less crowds. HIGHLY recommend avoiding crowd time.

Wife and I on honeymoon FINALLY saw some moose: mother and 2 young in evening along side of road. We pulled off the side of the road, and just watched the calm animals. Then a tour bus... seeing that a car must be stopped for a wildlife reason... pulled up behind us and shown a spotlight at the animals. We could hear the tour operator's microphone/speaker announcing "Looks like some live ones" as the spooked moose took off.

Spoilers.

get on to www.yellowstone-natl-park.com chat area and post this question and/or look at other questions.

They post the sightings of the wolf packs, guyser eruptions, etc...

Elk rut in fall. Crowds can be avoided if you just go off the beaten path a little.
