If we traveled to texas the last week in april is there any place we could still expect to see wildflowers in bloom?

We just had friends from Texas visiting us and I asked when the best time to come for the wildflowers...they said between from mid-April to the end of April. I would suspect a lot depends on the weather, but when we drove through Texas the end of April we saw lots of wildflowers...but that was about the end of the flowers too.

Where in texas did you drive the end of April?

We were in Big Bend National Park the last week of April 2002 and the cactus were in bloom. They were everywhere as we drove on Hwy 90 from the intersection of 385 & 90 all the way to Del Rio.

From Del Rio to San Antonio on Hwy 90 there were all kinds of wildflowers on the sides of the road and in the medium.

Joanel, we were driving through Texas to Arizona on I-10 and saw the wildflowers, or what was left of them on the interstate. On the way back we spent a week in the Texas Hill Country @ Canyon Lake and our friends would take us to various places around their home in Fredericksburg. We plan on visiting them next Spring.

The most spectacular wildflowers in Texas are the bluebonnets that grow along the roadways in central and north Texas. The state of Texas seeds this flower all along many highways and interstates. The best viewing areas are in central Texas outside of Austin, around Burnet to Fredricksburg. In north Texas the area around Ennis is a great viewing area.

The season is from late March through April. Depending on the weather the end of April might be a little late but you will probably still see some.

Growing along with the bluebonnets there are other wildflowers such as Indian Paintbrushes.

Also if you are in the Austin area check out the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center where you can walk through the gardens.

Late April is usually the tail end of the season. The Hill Country's wildflower season lasts longer since it is cooler than closer to the coast.
