Wildfires in CA
Hello,
We were planning on visiting Redwood National Park, Lassen, the Lava Fields and maybe Crater Lake in September, but are concerned about the fires. I have looked online, but am finding info a bit general. If there is anyone out there, your thoughts would be most appreciated. Thank you. |
You can go to http://www.fire.ca.gov/ and look up the current fires in California.

Redwood should be your best bet if the wind is coming off the ocean. (from the west).
There were people smoked out of Crater Lake within the last 2 weeks because of a large fire between Glide and Diamond lake. I am hoping we get a break sometime soon. I've been working in a fire tower and several days this week my visibility has been down to 3-5 miles when it is usually 40+. Lassen will probably still be smokey for the next 15 days unless we get some rain to clear the smoke. DO NOT go to Brookings. The Chetco Bar fire is now over 105,000 acres and is 0% contained. The entire town may have to be evacuated this week depending on wind direction. |
This is what I feared, thanks to you both.

I just read more road closures close to Steamboat Springs- not far from Crater Lake.
Skies even in Eugene are very smokey! Need rain! |
Sorry to hear it. Looks like we'll stick to the east coast, unless some serious rains occur.
Thanks again. |
