Wildfire Rages in middle of LA
"Firefighters said they were making major progress against a wildfire that roared across brush-covered hills in the city's sprawling Griffith Park on Tuesday, triggering evacuations of homes and some of the city's most famous landmarks."

It's been very hot in California for May. Southern California is bone dry right now. They only recieved about 3 inches or so of rain this year. It could be a really tough fire season this year.
The fog rolled into the North coast this morning so hopefully, it will cool down there too. |
It's not looking foggy at the moment.
The Griffith Park Observatory, Greek Theatre, Los Angeles Zoo, Travel Town and Museum of the American West, as well as nearby golf courses, a magnet school and boys camp were evacuated Tuesday afternoon as firefighters dealt with erratic winds and bone-dry brush that has received less than 4 inches of rain in the last year. I would expect the above attractions will be closed for the next day or two. |
Although they are working hard on the fire this morning, the weather forecast isn't good for later today. They are letting some of the evacuated homes back in, but not all.

Coast to coast -- here in Southwest Florida, we are fighting major fires daily too. Alligator Alley (I-75) has been closed all morning and remains closed now due to major fires. There are about a dozen major ones going on right now in Southwest Florida.
But while some homes are being lost to the fires here, they are nowhere near major areas like Griffith Park is. |
Investigators are looking into whether the fire started when someone tossed a cigarette butt on the golf course.
Please, when you visit Southern California, DO NOT throw cigarette butts out of car windows, or just toss them on the ground. Other than it's disgusting, many big fires here here begin this way. This news site has up to date info: www.cbs2.com |
News reports I've heard state that a homeless man in the park was smoking a cigarette and fell asleep and that's how the fire started. On the Adam Carolla radio show this morning, Adam stated (dont know how true this is) that the park is full of homeless people.

The smoke is probably healthier than the normal LA smog
