Wilderness Lodge Disneyworld
 

<BR> Can someone tell me if the ''standard room '' at Wilderneass Lodge is over looking a parking lot ? As I have booked in one for Aug.98 . for 8 nights. <BR> <BR> I was told this is the value season but could not get a discount on the room rate of $195.00 a night with my gold card. <BR> <BR> Any ideas you might have on staying there, eating <BR>places that two teen boys age 14,19 might enjoy . <BR> <BR>

I'm staying at the Wilderness Lodge in a standard room in June, so maybe I can offer some advice about the room when I return! :o) But, your sons might enjoy Planet Hollywood in Pleasure Island. The lines are really long, so don't go there starving. But, the food is supposed to be really good (hamburgers, pasta, etc.).

Wilderness Lodge was wonderfult in every way. Charming, convenient and easy to get around from.

We went in May of 1997. It was great!!! Our room was facing the lake. The geyser goes off every hour during the day. The pool was big with lots of room around it to sit. <BR> <BR>There is a family style restaurant in the lobby you shouldn't miss. All the wait staff actually perform as they serve your meal. (Might not be a good place to go if you embarass easily.) They have a snack bar easily accessible to the pool that is very handy. <BR> <BR>Hope you have a good time.

We didn't stay at the Wilderness Lodge, but had dinner there, and hopefully next time we'll stay there, it is beautiful! My pre-teen loved the <BR>Rainforest Cafe, also Planet Hollywood in Pleasure Island. Bongo's (Gloria Estfans place) is wonderful! There are lot's of cool restaurants in Pleasure Island they (and you) would love.

<BR>Wilderness Lodge is our family's favorite hotel at Disney World. Standard room probably does face either a parking lot, or surrounding wooded area, but you won't be in the room much, so I wouldn't worry about the view. The hotel pool is terrific, with a small waterslide made to look like a rock formation, and a mountain "stream" that flows from a spring in the lobby all the way down to the pool itself. Your kids likely will enjoy the beach area at the hotel, which offers a boat rental area with personal watercraft. Disney's transportation system is very convenient as well. YOu can take a ferry to the Magic Kingdom, and there are bus services to all other areas of the property. Try the Boardwalk -- but keep in mind that there's much more going on there at night than during the day. Also, Downtown Disney is a nice break from the parks, with shopping, restaurants, etc. Pleasure Island would also be fun for your family, with lots of restaurants, nightly street festivals, etc.

Just returned from 6 nights at Wilderness Lodge with 3 teen grandaughters, Wonderful place to stay. We had Deluxe mini-suite with 2 Queen beds and sofa bed in separate living room. Nice to take the shuttle boat across to Magic Kingdom. Eat at the MGM Sci-Fi drive in and Rainforest Cafe at downtown Disney. Easy free bus service from outside the Lodge to all parks. The fireworks at Epcot every night is outstanding. Also catch the Electric Lights parade at Magic Kingdom..amazing. What a fun and easy place to go with young people.

Definitely take your teens to Disney Quest, they will love it, lots of video / computer / virtual reality type attractions. My 12 yo went twice. Also check out Deb Wills unofficial guide site at www.wdwig.com for lots of tips, also menus from many restaurants at WDW. I have been to WDW latter part of August (week before Labor Day) past 2 years and enjoy it, crowds are not bad then. The Florida kids are back in school by Aug 15. Have fun!
