Wild Dunes or Kiawah Island?
 

Hi. I've gotten several responses to a previous post asking for recommendations for a golf resort within driving distance of Charleston. Thanks for your help!

Now, the next question is: since we want luxury accommodations, fine dining AND golf, would the best choice be Wild Dunes or Kiawah Island OR something else altogether?
We need to stay south of Charleston cause the next stop will be Savnnah.

My recollection is that Wild Dunes is actually north of Charleston (albeit not very far north) so if you want to stay south of Charleston than Kiawah Island or Hilton Head island (there are several "golf plantations" on Hilto Head) would be your better choices. Both are south of Charleston.

I have stayed at Wild Dunes, Kiawah & Hilton Head.

If you want any sort of nightlife, I recommend Hilton Head, Wild Dunes, then Kiawah, in that order.

I have been to Hilton Head and LOVE it, but there is something about Wild Dunes that I really liked. You don't have to mess with the traffic, and it is a self-contained resort. Kiawah was a bit too secluded for my tast.
Just my opinion....

Everyone has their own idea about the meaning of luxury, but I really liked the condos at Wild Dunes. They've packed a lot of condos in the resort, but it didn't seem too crowded to me.

About the only disadvantage I saw was it was not convenient to showing and food. I didn't find it much of a problem though.

Wild Dunes is technically 'north' or Charleston but it is much closer to downtown than Kiawah.

It really is misleading because they are both actually on barrier islands.

My pick would be Wild Dunes over Kiawah.

And NOT hilton Head. Dining in Charlston--could it get any better.

I have stayed at both Hilton Head and Kiawah on several occasions.

I wouldn't stay at either again on my dime (the last few times were with my husband on business).

Overpriced and overcrowded.

Gotta go with Wild Dunes as well. Kiawah is nice but extremely overpriced for the service and product IMHO. It is so much easier to get to downtown and fine dining from Wild Dunes than Kiawah (only fine dining would be at The Sanctuary). If you stay at Wild Dunes and then head to Savannah, all you have to do is get on 17 South and you're on your way. From Kiawah, You'd have to take the 2 lane Main Road which can take forever if you get behind a slow driver or construction vehicle.

Another advantage to Wild Dunes and the Mt. Pleasant side of Charleston is that golf prices are better than on Kiawah and the courses are still very nice.
