Wild Dunes in Charleston with kids

Thanks to some recommendations from Fodorites, I've checked out Wild Dunes Resort in Charleston, and I think it looks beautiful!

After years of weekly house rentals on Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head, we'd like to try another beach this summer. We'll be traveling with our 10-year-old son and 9-year-old twin daughters. Before I book a week at Wild Dunes, though, can anyone tell me what there is to do nearby? We basically like a quiet beach vacation, and the the kids also like the pool. We like to eat out maybe twice during the week (kid-friendly but quality restaurants). We would like to rent bikes. As you can tell, we like a quiet beach vacation, but I do want to make sure there are some events/activities for us to do with the kids.

With these details in mind, is Wild Dunes/Charleston the place for us? Or would anyone recommend another location? (If so, please recommend specific properties.)

Thanks!
Kim from Cincinnati

Wild Dunes does have a "Kids Club" of sorts where they have structured activities for the kids. Their website or online concierge should be able to provide more info. They have a swim center and of course the beach is nearby (depending on where you stay in Wild Dunes). There are bike rentals as well.

There are a few hotels in the resort, a somewhat pricey venue in the Boardwalk Inn in the hotel and a pizza and snack type place as well....there is not much variety in terms of restaraunts in the resort. There are some restaraunts in Isle of Palms (where Wild Dunes is located). Sullivan's Island and Shem Creek are just across the bridge.

Wild Dunes is about 20 minutes from downtown area of Charleston...there you have the SC Aquarium and of course the other attractions of the city......well worth the drive to Charleston....

I prefer Wild Dunes due to the solace, yet still be close enough to drive into Charleston.

Isle of Palms/Wild Dunes sounds like a good fit for you, but be careful about where you stay in WDs, a couple areas have no beach at all due to erosion.

We've been to Wild Dunes a couple of times with our kids. It sounds like a good fit for you. It's quiet but Charleston is close by for a couple of day trips. There are lots of restaurants within 20 minutes of WD.

Thanks so much for the feedback! And I appreciate learning that some beach area has eroded--I will call Wild Dunes to ask for accommodations away from those areas.

Thanks again!
