Wicked tickets for Christmas gift
Need advice on best seats to pick for Wicked NY Jan 15 2011
Have not been often to theater so ticket buying stresses me. I have looked at Ticketmaster already. Please advise how you pick good seats. Need 2. |
There really isn't a bad seat in the house. It's a huge theatre but the staging is such that you can see everything you need to see from just about any seat.
Years ago I read on here that the best seat in a house is center stage on the 8th row and I've used that advice in choosing seats ever since - for any theatre. The closer I can get to (usually) Row H center, the happier I am. A lot of people love the front rows of mezzanine, and I agree with that. Some people will always choose orchestra over mezzanine but if I'm sitting really far back in orchestra, I'll opt to move up to the second level. I've seen Wicked sitting in almost every section, from front row, sitting on the right and the left, and up about 1/2 in the mezzanine. In NYC, it's always been close to the stage. For this show, there really isn't a bad seat - IMO. NeoPatrick will tell you to call Ticketmaster directly and he is right. The computer will pick "best available" and often return those same seats to you over and over again. If you talk to someone "live" they can tell you 2 or 3 options to choose from. If you aren't familiar with the show, I STRONGLY recommend getting the CD before and becoming familiar with the songs (and the story). It is my favorite show. If you are already a fan of the show, you may enjoy the backstage tour offered on Saturdays - http://www.emeraldcurtain.com/NewYork.html |
Oh, thank you for the advice.
Will buy tickets tonight with your helpful tips. I am going to buy the CD for stocking stuffer. |
I bought Wicked tix as a Christmas gift for my teenage daughter a few years ago. We were seated towards the back of the theater and, like starrs pointed out, still felt we were part of the action. We've now seen the show 3 times (Chicago, NYC, Norfolk-where we had 6th row middle seats) and just love, Love, LOVE it! Enjoy the show! And definitely take the advice on getting the CD...it is absolutely wonderful!

Got the CD ordered already.
So excited about such a fun gift. |
I ordered the tickets and look to be good seats.
Thanks for all the tips. Any tips on where to eat? Young couple on a budget so prefix would be great. |
Take a look -

Starrs: I checked on the link you provided to see what the current prices were for Becco, & I'm really surprised! I ate there 2 or 3 times a few years ago, & I thought they were higher. Is it possible that they've lowered their prices? I know the economy isn't great, but I haven't really seen prices dropping in the theatre district. Who knew?
Joebear: What a nice present! (How do I get on your Christmas list?) Starrs suggestion of Becco is good (especially if they have big appetites), and pretty much any restaurant along restaurant row or the vicinity will have a reasonable price-fixed menu. |
The pasta special price at Becco has increased by $2 or $3 in recent years, not lowered.
