Wicked NYC-- ticket brokers
My wife and I are coming to NYC April 27-30...have tix to The Wedding Singer and to Three Days of Rain already, but want tix to Wicked for Thurs, April 27th...I'm ok paying a ticket broker, but have some questions since I've never dealt with any in NYC before and at least want to be sorta smart before I buy....here are my questions:
1) Do the listed internet broker prices generally go up or down as the show date approaches for sold-out shows? (should I buy now or wait till closer to April 27th?): 2) Are the seats at the back of the Orchestra (Rows V,W,X,Y,and Z) and the partial view seats still available not worth considering? I assume so but really have no idea..... 3) Any recommended ticket brokers? As always, thanks for all the advice..... |
Generally prices only go up as you get closer to a popular event - and yes Wicked does qualify. Also - since scalping is illegal in NYC you can't get the tickets here - they need to be shipped to you. (Brokers here are limited to a very small mark-up - so they operate out of New Jersey or elsewhere by phone or Internet. If you buy scalper tickets just the day before you typically have to pick them up from the bartender in a local watering hole - or some other semi-dicey subterfuge.
We use stubhub for sports tickets and they're fine. Don;t know specifics on shows. (And I assume you've contacted the official broker and the theater and they have no availability for your date?) |
Recently bought Wicked tix from sitinmyseats.com and was vey pleased with price and service. She did not hit us up with any extra charges as I found on other sites. Just ticket price and shipping charges. Tix were sent fed ex and arrived on time and would absolutely use this service again.
I don't think the partial view seats are really partial view. If they are available up closer than the last couple of rows, I would take the partial views. I believe the partial view seats are on the side aisles, but it seemed to me you could see fine from the extreme sides. Keep in mind this is a HUGE modern theatre by Bway standards. We were in the second row behind the mid theater break (R i think) and we were very pleased with our last minute seats. However we could not see the faces of the actors closely or read their expressions, so to speak, and I would not have wanted to be in the back of the theater. I would say anywhere from row F-J would be ideal. We (me, hubby, daughters 8 and 10) all loved Wicked and are still singing 5 weeks later! |
No one can tell you whether back seats or partial view are "worth considering" for you since we don't know the difference in price or how that will impact your trip. I personally don't want to pay $100 or more to get a partial view, but others may disagree.
Check ebay for tickets. Also check applause-tickets.com |
I agree with checking EBay.
Other sources for tickets: Buy the "Premium" tickets for the show on Ticketmaster. There are great orchestra seats available for the date you want at $250 each. While that is steep, it may not be more than scalpers want and at least the seats are excellent. Here's a better idea: Phone Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids. http://store.yahoo.com/broadwaycares/caretix.html At twice face price, you can purchase "house seats" for most sold out shows. All money beyond the face value of the ticket is a donation to the AIDS foundation and therefore tax deductable. At least your money goes to a good cause instead of a ticket broker. We had amazing seats for sold out HairSpray this way. As for the Gershwin, it is a HUGE theater. I saw the show from front row mezzanine seats and felt quite far back. These overhang Row O in the Orchestra. Do take a pair of small opera glasses or binoculars to see facial expressions and to check out the amazing costumes. |
thanks for the responses...called Broadway Cares and they work a month ahead only (i.e. can check beginning of March for April tix)....seems like a good thing, however....am feeling better about not buying remaining tix in very back of orchestra on the sides....thanks again

While you're waiting for your Wicked tickets to come through, I suggest reading the book. Its a good read and great background before seeing the show -- not necessary, just fun.
|
I would suggest thinking about premium tickets at well. This way there is no guess work involved, and no fear of being scammed, etc.
Enjoy! |
try ticketsnow.com and stubhub.com.
Most of these ticket sites allow you to view the theatre.Do not buy partial view as they are not kidding.I would take a seat in the mezz before a partial view. |
We sat in Row G seats 18-20 for Wicked at the Gershwin. The seats were off to the side, but were very good to excellent. We could see faces clearly and the stage. Don't know if this helps...

Wicked is still one of the hottest shows in town and pretty much sold out so if you can get tickets,,,,,any tickets and want to see the show, buy them.
That said, I have used Applause several times and they always came through with the show I wanted at reasonable prices. The website is www.applause-tickets.com, as someone else mentioned earlier. Have a GREAT time while you are here. |
I recently purchased tickets for Lion King and Spamelot through applause-tickets.com because of McLaurie's rec on another post. The representative was extremely helpful especially since I was unfamiliar with each theater. They also sell no partial view tickets. Though expensive, I did find their prices less than several other ticket brokers that I checked with. Service was great..tickets arrived within three days as indicated.
I just checked their website and they do have tickets for April 27. You may want to give them a call. |
I just found another website with a better seating chart... www.nederlander.org they own the theater.

I used http://www.soldoutbroadwaytickets.com for The Odd Couple and everything worked out fine. The price was really good (8th row for $175), but I think it was more because the show has not gotten the best reviews. I saw Lane and Broderick in the Producers, so I wanted to see them again despite the reviews of the show. I did really liked the show.
