Wicked for 14 & 11 yo boys?

Has anyone taken teen or tween boys to Wicked? Did they enjoy it? Do you have any recommendations for a Broadway play for boys this age?

Not on Broadway, but Blue Man Group or Stomp would be my suggestions. My teen son [at the time] loved them both.

Actually, I'd recommend In The Heights. It's got a lot of hip-hop an rap-influenced music that might very well appeal to that age group.

Hi,

It depends on your boys. I just took my 14-year old son (DS2)in December, and we both loved it! He loves theatre and musicals and was in his school's fall production of Oklahoma. Some cautioned us that it might not be the best choice for boys. And, for sure, my 17-year old (DS1) would probably not have cared for it now or then. We saw a number of boys in that age range at the theatre.

My guys have both liked Stomp, Blue Man Group, Les Mis, Lion King, Phantom of the Opera, and Spamalot. I know most of those are not currently playing. We are considering In the Heights or Billy Elliott for our next show.

Hope that helps. :-)

I agree with Doug. "In the Heights" is fabulous and very young. You will love it too. There are even some discounts for it now on broadwaybox.com for the first time.

I think they might like Wicked, but it's such a tough ticket and never discounted. Why take a chance? There are revivals of "Guys and Dolls" and "West Side Story" also scheduled to open soon which might interest them.

Off B'way, in addition to the ones Debit mentioned, I've also heard Fuezerbruta is "amazing."

Another vote for "In the Heights." My whole family loved it.

We were in NYC this past year with a school group of 5th and 6th graders and their families. Many families went to see Wicked but not many of their sons were wild about it. In the words of one boy I recall "it was sort of a girl relationship story, and I don't think my mom should have taken me. She should have gone by herself." :)

We went two summers ago with boys ages 8, 14 and 15. We all loved it. We had listened to the music in the car, so I think it helps if you know the music, and my daughter and I had seen it once before. So it just depends on what your kids like.

Since it is about being different and that the most attractive person is not always the best person...it is universal. My 10 year old grandaughter LOVED it and she has seem most kid suitable shows both here and in London and never loved anything this much. Yes, girl main characters but fitting-in, being part of the group, or not...that's kids in school. I think they will like it. Billy Elliot and In the Heights are also good choices. Blue and Stomp are fun but less traditional.
