Why so many omissions in the Fodor's guides?
 

And Frommers too for that matter. I wanted to research resorts in Punta Cana and the Mayan Riviera for a Family trip, 2 locations which have become very popular recently, and there is virtually nothing written about the lodgings in either of these guides. Why not? I have always counted on Fodors guides for recommendations and can't believe the complete lack of information! There are dozens and dozens of resorts in these areas with nary a comment from Fodors.<BR><BR>Hey Fodors, if you want to pay my expenses to review hotels in these area, let me know. I'll be happy to visit them all, you won't even have to pay me. What do you say?

Are you looking for information on these areas or just griping? If the former, you'd do better on the appropriate boards rather than US. And incidentally, I just checked Fodor's online guide and found 28 hotels in Punta Cana listed - isn't that enough for a choice?

I was surprised to discover that there is no current edition of the Fodor's gold guide that covers Minnesota. For obvious reasons, they must concentrate on updating the top-sellers frequently and in-depth.

I'm not griping, only suggesting that they could improve their coverage of certain increasingly popular locations. Oh and I'm offering my services as well. <BR><BR>I'm perfectly capable of researching over the internet (which I've done), but somehow I've trusted Fodor's opinion over Joe Blow from god-knows-where. I always like to consult their guides when planning a trip.

Maybe I wasn't clear - the 28 hotels WERE reviewed by Fodor's, though in their online guide (which you can get to from this site) rather than in a book. I suspect that it's too tough for them to keep up with published guides on paper, and so generally the online versions will be more up-to-date. But I too like to check paper versions as they're a bit easier to use than online.

You know Kris I checked the on-line guide. I bet there are hundreds of hotels in Punta Cana and the Mayan Riviera but strangely some of the biggest, newest and most popular (and specifically ones we were considering) are missing. I've never seen that happen in most guides like the European or US City guides.<BR><BR>Oh well, the offer is still open. Fodors do you need someone to do some research for you? I'm available.

You're correct Susan, er I mean x. They need stimulating and challenging jobs. Why don't you look for one? I'd stay and rebut this but my garden needs watering and the kids need to be picked up from camp. See you tomorrow.

<BR>I bought the 2002 Frommers Yucatan book and they list about three hotels under three different categories (cheap/moderate/expensive). The ones they list are typically hotels they say are better option for the money. If they listed EVERY single lodging accommodation, I wouldn't be able to fit the book in my suitcase because it would 900 pages long. Do your research online for your hotel. The guides are just that, they steer you in a direction and you take it from there. <BR>
