I don't mind rebuttal to my comments about Priceline or anything else; what I do mind are insults and potshots by anonymous cowards who aren't brave enough even to use the same name every time they post. There's no need for ad hominem attacks here - it only distracts from the topic at hand. If you disagree with something, disagree in a respectful way or don't post.

Andrew
I have to agree with greenspam - it all depends on how this board with be moderated. It looks like a lot of people are working on the assumption that it's going to be a very heavy-handed, delete-every-questionable post type of moderation. I haven't read or heard anything that would make me believe it's going to be like this.

There are a lot of "regulars" on this board that post humorous, frank and sometimes controversial comments. They do not get deleted. What I see getting deleted are the silly and childish posts or the ones that dissolve into name calling.

Every board that requires registration is not boring and dull. We'll just have to wait and see what happens and how Fodor's plans to moderate this one.

I am against registration.

I come here to have fun, also to ask and answer questions.

I like the outlaw element.

I have registered this name for me in case I stay.

I hope all you trouble-makers will in fact register under many many names, though I'll miss your funny addresses.

I guess I'll get a "bad person" name too just in case.

How many of you out there use a work computer to view this site? I know, I know, I should have a personal computer at home! I come in early before work starts and look at Fodors and other sites. There is no way I can register and use the company's email address.
|
How is registration going to stop troll posting? Is there anything in the rules that says "You can't make up a question that is intended to incite many heated responses"? If I ask "Don't you hate it when obese people with screaming babies sit next to you on an airplane?", do I get kicked out or arrested or whatever? Who determines whether a post is valid or toll in nature? I'm with Frank, we'll see the same 10 posts over and over and over again:

1) What do I wear on my trip to NYC?
2) Should I go to Vegas?
3) Where to eat in the theatre district?
4) I bought on Priceline, both my legs fell off, now I can't go and tehy won't give me a refund!
5) Where should I stay in Maui?
6) Where can I park in Manhatten?
7) How do I get a discount to play golf in [some obnoxious Scottsdale country club]?
8) How bad is the Hotel Pennsylvania or Milford Plaza?
9) How do I get from NY/NJ to <insert pretentious New England destination here (Cape? Bah Hahbah, MV, etc)?
10) Where can I find Kate Spade knockoff purses on Canal St.?

registraton will stop nothing. It takes them 3 days to figure out it's a fake email. So,every three days, login under a fake name and let the games resume. They cant trace a thread to a fake email.
|
huh: but don't forget, someone will correct your spelling of ManhattAn!
|
angry: nope...won't work...after registering, Fodors sends an e-mail to you at the address you gave...you then must respond to that in order to be registered....
|
What, do none of you ever post on other boards? I don't know of another that doesn't require registration. I wish Fodors would get on with it. As Nike would say, "Just Do It"! This whining will be incessant until it happens.
|
Registration will not keep trolls off of fodors. I will re-register time and time again just so I can be a troll poster.
This is the best forum but after registering takes place, it will become just another travel forum. Boring without trolls.
|
Nuh uh!..you can register and not respond for 3 days. Then re-register under the same name if you wish,or just change the email by a letter.
|
It's really simple. You just register about a dozen names at the same email address!
|
I too surf Fodor's at work since I have no Internet at home. It's not a matter of not wanting to register, I simply cannot.
|
Super troll. emails only work once,I tried it.
|
If you register with all required information, does your e-mail address actually show when you post? If it does, I would think that Fodor's could change that part of it. I am all for registration, but I really don't want my really e-mail addresses plastered all over the world! . . .can you imagine the spam? And the people who would start e-mailing you at work/home etc. because they didn't like what you posted?
|
No Ellen, your e-mail address won't "show" - that's why I for one am wondering what all the hoopla is about over registration.
|
To the person (xxxx) using a work computer to post: have you heard of Yahoo! email? Hotmail.com? Both of these give you FREE email accounts you can use at work (or from any computer that can access the web). Spend 3 minutes and sign up for one, then you have your own non-work email address. Register at Fodors once, follow the instructions in the email confirmation Fodors sends, then you never have to login to your email account after that.

Andrew
All one has to do is read Andrew's posts above to see what kind of forum this will become. Whiny people like him who think they can set the rules as to what is an acceptable post are some of the worst posters on this board.
|
I agree with Observer except for the stuff about the moderators being more diligent. They already cut tons of threads and posts, often for no visible reason. They are already scissor happy.
Now they will also be homeland security.
Big brother rules...you must love big brother.
