Why does Hotwire charge more for longer stay?
 

I was looking at booking a hotel in maui in January, and the hotwire rate for 3 nights is cheaper per night than the rate for 9 nights. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? Also for reviews/comments, of the 3 people who wrote reviews, 2 stayed 1 night and 1 stayed 3 nights. Do most people use hotwire for short stays only? Thanks in advance for any imput!

Harry, my guess would be: out of the 9 nights at least 2 would be fri/sat which are usually much more expensive.

Rates change from day to day in most hotel operations. The 3 nights you are looking at happen to be less than the average for the 9. Obviously, some of the nights 4-9 are expensive!

that's why priceline is always the way to go.

I've used Priceline many times but Hotwire only once: to get a specific hotel we guessed (correctly) from the amenities was the Embassy Suites. We'd already gotten a few rooms at this hotel via Priceline, but a month later needed one more room and wanted them all to be together. Didn't want to risk re-bidding for another room on Priceline and getting a different hotel.<BR><BR>FYI, this was the ES in Fort Lauderdale. We paid $57 on Priceline and $77 on Hotwire (+ tax/fees) as I recall. I usually check Hotwire when bidding on Priceline, but I've always been able to win PL bids that are lower than the Hotwire offers.<BR><BR>Andrew<BR>

According to recent posts in BFT, there have been people unable to book long stays on Priceline recently, but if they break up the stay and bid two shorter stays, suddenly there is availability. For me too, Priceline may be cheaper, but I want the sure thing, not a guess as to where I'll be.<BR><BR>My son is booking 7 days in Maui through Expedia vacation packages, guaranteed the Hyatt and the airfare/room package sounds terrific too. I'm as big a fan of a bargain as the next guy, but would far prefer to pay a little more and be assured of the quality I want.

tobe, that has happened in 2 situations thatI've read on BFT, out of hundreds of hotels that have been booked &amp; updated on the website in the past 30 days. Does not sound like it's happening regularly..... as far as bidding goes with maui it's about a 90% certainty of what hotel you'll get in a speific area &amp; dollar amount. I'd definately try priceline 1st as some hotel guests have even also been getting room upgrades, amazing!
