Why are the forums so slooooooooooooooow?

It seems that every time Fodor's "improves" the forums, they become so slow it reminds me of the old days with dial-up. They know it's slow, so what is the problem. I do know that readership on the European and US forums has dropped in half of what it was prior to the latest "improvements".

Agreed - very slow. And once I hit submit it takes forever for the response to appear.

Except for the submission issue that nytraveler mentioned, I haven't noticed any major issues (though that one certainly is annoying).

I'm curious as to where you got your stats, Curious.

Click on the "send us feedback" link in the upper left corner and let them know so they will work on it.

The slowest part for me (and it's painfully slow) is switching forums.

sf7307 Oct 29th, 2009 01:35 PM

The second slowest part is the "submit" button.

For me, it's "submit"

Maybe I post too much?

azzure Oct 29th, 2009 03:29 PM

"Submit" is a problem for me too...

kelliebellie Oct 29th, 2009 07:31 PM

It is all slow here. :(

ksucat Oct 29th, 2009 08:11 PM

it is slow slow slow..
makes me not want to post as much..takes minutes out of my day that I obviously cannot afford..
:))

Amazingly, today seems a little faster. As for jent103 wanting to know where I got my stats.: I check both the European and US forums daily. The European forum used to have 200 to 250 items in any 24 hour period. Now it is less than 100. The US forum used to have around 150 per 24 hour period. It too is now less than 100.

I didn't use it nearly as much after the first change a year ago or so. It just isn't as user friendly. I do use it often now, so maybe others will find their way back again as well.

The drop in # of posts is most likely due to the economy and the fact that winter is approaching. Many people cannot afford vacations now, and the next 2 months most people are busy spending time with their families.

I'm not sure if your statistics reflect "readership" though. Sure, there are fewer new posts, but that doesn't necessarily mean fewer people are reading the forums.

Moreover, I continue to see plenty of new members in the US/Europe forums posting travel questions. Obviously these are people who found Fodors forums one way or the other (most likely via Google after the forum upgrade). And it seems to me that most of these newcomers have no trouble whatsoever navigating the "new" forums.
