who has stayed at the Inn at Shaker Village?
 

Our nine day trip will start in the Lexington Ky area. We plan to visit the Kentucky Horse Park. We also would like to visit the the Shaker Village located nearby. Has anyone stayed at the Inn?
Is one day at the Shaker village and one day at the horse park enough time? Next, We will drive to Williamsburg Va. Any suggestions for the best route & sights to see along the way. We would also like to visit Monticello. Thanks

both the horse park and villege are 1/2 day events. Also think about stoping at Kneeland. Denpend on then you are going they might be racing while your there. Old time race trace where it's the place to see and been see. I believe the run in April and Oct. Enjoy Lexington, beautiful. I live there for 3 years and I've live in a few places.

I spent a night at Shaker Village once for a conference. I was in one of the outer buildings and not in the main house where the dining room is. My room was plain, in the Shaker style, (but the bathroom was modern!) It was winter and the windows were quite cold on the inside, but the room was not uncomfortable.

Whether or not you decide to spend a night, be sure to have a meal. Their food is wonderful. I used to adore their Shaker Lemon Pie, made with the whole lemon sliced paper thin, and a double crust; but the last time I was there, the crusts were too thick and the filling too thin. It might have been a fluke, but I was really disappointed.

Thanks for your input, I think we'll give it a try. Our 11 year old grandaughter loves historic places.

Not far from Shakertown (highway 68 towards Lexington to Hwy 33)is The Glitz at Irish Acres in Nonesuch. It's a cool place for lunch, but you will need reservations.

I've also stayed in one of the houses outside the village, but can't imagine it's much different than the rooms in the main buildings. All Shaker furniture and plain.

About five miles from Pleasant Hill is Fort Harrod in Harrodsburg, if that interests you.
