Who else thinks that the Super Bowl in Detroit is going to be a joke

I was at Super Bowl XVI in Pontiac and it was freezing!
The 49ers barely made it to the stadium as their bus got caught in the snow. The people in Detroit went all out and were very nice but the Super Bowl should be played in a warm-weather venue for several reasons:
It happens in the middle of winter. Fans come from all over the country and many are not prepared for the "frozen tundra" found in places like Lambeau Field.
It's a week-long event where people like to party and sightsee - hard to do in below freezing temperatures. Going to a warm venue with lots of attractions like New Orleans is also a nice reward for the families, fans, team employees and writers who have to "suffer" through a long season!

Ryan, you're so right that the NFL uses the L.A. card to get new stadiums all around the country. Louisiana's governor has told the Saints that they will not be getting a taxpayer-financed stadium so they may as well settle for a renovated Superdome costing much less. Good for her! The team has 35 sellouts in a row and isn't happy. Geez! And yes, the Saints are now mentioned as the team most likely to be banished to Los Angeles.

We weren't concerned about LA here in Cincinnati. Cleveland had just lost their team and for those of you not in the loop, Mike Brown is Paul Brown's son. Browns? Cleveland? We weren't worried about our team going to LA.

An earlier fodorite suggested that the NFL should award the Super Bowl to the city of the competing team with the best record. Good idea, but it doesn't fit in to the BUSINESS PLAN of pro football. So we have this supposed lottery system modeled after the site selection of the summer and winter Olympics. No ones first choice. Just get over it. Detroit hosts the 2006 Super Bowl. Tri-County law enforcement agencies, The Department Of Home Land Security, the FBI, Major League Baseball, the NFL, and almost 100 city Chambers of Commerce used the 2004 Ryder Cup competition at Oakland Hills as a "rehersal" to prepare for the 2005 MLB All-Star Week at Comerica Park and the 2006 Super Bowl. Detroit and the tri-county area, passed the test with flying colors. Welcome to Motown: Cars, Bars and a whole lot of good times.
