Who else is unafraid to travel?
 

I've been reading a lot of posts here about people canceling their trips. In about 3 weeks my wife and I are taking our daughter on a trip to the east coast to tour colleges. Most likely, there will be a war going on at that time. My wife has been concerned, particularly about flying and visiting schools in NYC. After we talked about it as a family, we agreed that canceling the trip means that we would be giving up our freedoms and the terrorists will have won. We refuse to let them do that to us. Do others feel the same way?

I agree 100%. A little anxiety during wartime is normal but I think too many people are letting this anxiety morph into something more. I plan on making an Easter trip but haven't yet decided where. May even choose DC or NYC just to show some financial and moral support to the people of those cities.

I'm going ahead with all my trips, as planned, unless a State Department warning is issued. Sure, some issues have crossed my mind, but we can't let the world stop spinning, can we?<BR><BR><BR>

I agree that nobody should cancel any trips!!!! I was in NYC on September 11th and while I witnessed and felt so many terrible things, cancelling trips will not make you safe. Terrorism is making one feel terror or fear which is exactly what terrorist want us to do and feel. My husband and I are flying in a few weeks to New Orleans and plan on having a grand time:)...<BR>Travelrmebe - While NYC will be on alert and police will be more visible than normal but then again since Sept 11th NYC has not been normal.... Good luck checking out schools and if you need some info on NYC just let me know.

<BR>This is your family, so ultimately you have decide what you are comfortable doing.<BR><BR>In my case, I'm planning to travel in the western US during the first part of April. I have zero concerns (ok, maybe a small number of concerns) about flying. I've flown several times since 9/11, and the security has been very good. I can only imagine the security will be even better until the situation with Iraq is resolved. On the down side, I'm planning for even longer boarding times, since I'm sure they will extra careful.<BR><BR>Just my opinion.<BR><BR>Mike Honeycutt

I leave for London tomorrow, and of course I'm not cancelling my trip.<BR><BR>That said, I really don't believe that my traveling has anything to do with whether terrorists have won or lost anything. It's not like I'm making a huge statement or bravely defying anyone. I'm simply going about my normal life.

I am leaving tomorrow night for Florida, have a trip to Cleveland next month and Alaska in May. Going to go on all 3 trips. I flew 2 weeks after 911. You just have to go on with life. To everyone travelling, Bon Voyage and have a great time!!

We're continuing with our travel plans, plus we're making new reservations. No concerns at all that I didn't have before.<BR><BR>The only problem I see is that things may move even slower than they do now. It's not fear that makes me want to fly less it's the complete hassle that flying has become!

I am not afraid to travel but I am concerned that between now and the end of the year, there will be terrorist attacks, some of them very big.

I'm a little afraid, but will send my 13 year old daughter to NYC on a scheduled choir trip next week anyway. I do think that individuals going about their normal business are making statements.

travellyn, The middle school in our town cancelled it's annual 8th grade trip to DC today. Kids were very disappointed.

I'm going to LA this weekend, Minneapolis for Easter, NYC for the 4th, and hopefully Paris in September. I do not plan on cancelling any trips. I travelled to NYC 2 weeks after Sept. 11 and was not concerned for my safety. I refuse to live in fear or let events beyond my control have power over me. I believe that I am in more danger driving my car than from a terrorist attack. My 2 cents.

Going to Brazil on April 3rd. It will be a cold day in hell before the threat of terrorists stop me from living my life...

We are flying to Zurich w/KLM with a connection in Amsterdam the end of April and are not planning to cancel our trip. We are also going to Rome for a few days. Not planning to cancel unless the State Dept. issues travel warnings.

I am not afraid! <BR>I have six trips (with air travel) planned between now and Dec 31st. I'm not changing ANY of them. <BR><BR>YEEEEEE-HAWWWWW! <BR><BR>I took a vacation about a week after 9/11. It had been planned for months and although I considered cancelling, I thought that would be an admission of defeat. I was never afraid to fly, not even as all of the info about 9/11 came to light. I know I'm taking a risk when I get into any plane -- what will be, will be. (Although I would DEFINITELY want to help disarm a terrorist if one was on my flight.)

I plan to take advantage of the travel deals that will likely come about in the next couple months. Though I haven't decided where to go yet.

Me too! I will travel just for the SPITE of it.....let the &quot;nutters&quot; eat dirt(and other nasty things)!

Plan to travel unless the planes are grounded. Helps the economy. Helps my sanity.

I am looking forward to traveling to Florida and even being on a plane for five hours just to get away from the 24 hour news and talking heads! Who knows what will happen before Saturday, but we plan on using this opportunity to get a little bit of our sanity back and try to get five days of relief from world events...the impending war is just one more stress in our lives and we take vacations to get away from ALL our stress. If I got on the plane and immediately start worrying about what's happening at work or what's happening at home, regardless of a war, it wouldn't be a vacation...vacation is the time to focus on YOU, and if you can't go without worrying (about war or what yr missing at work or whatever), you shouldn't go. I am thankful I have vacation plans, it seems like there's no better time to get away...the world will still be there when we get back and we can go back to stressing out...take yr freakin vacations, people!!

I just made new travel plans today - won't let those dogs get me down!<BR><BR>My mother-in-law told me a disgusting story today: her elderly Florida friends have Canada pins they plan to bring along on their Europe trip &quot;just in case&quot; - they don't want any trouble being pegged as Americans. No offense intended to Canadians, but I'm proud to be an American, and wouldn't dream of feigning citizenship - that's cowardice bordering on betrayal to me.
