I used to watch the Travel Channel but now just surf past it...and I wanted to be the Travel Channel chick. How great a job would that be--going all over like Rick Steves, free trip and food to destinations viewers want to see? If that channel was better, that would be my dream job!!!

wsoxrebel: You hit the nail on the head.

Why would (or should) anyone settle for one-way media when an interactive, two-way media is available? The Travel Channel sucks so bad for the exact same reason news programming sucks so bad: the only people left watching it are either computerless, lazy or both.

Not surprisingly, I had a very difficult time finding a way to contact the Travel Channel, and finally had to drill down through the main discovery.com site and look all over the place until I found a "contact us" button and sent them a link to this thread.

(I also had to jump through all kinds of hoops and fill out about 4 screens of info to get the e-mail sent.)

The fodors gang was able to help stop Virgin from using urinals shaped like women's open mouths in their airport lounge. Maybe we can get Ian, Albie and Samantha back on the Travel Channel on a regular basis! (Although I'm REALLY sure I do not want to see Albie in those shorts NOW. Wellll, maybe once in awhile...)

Maybe fodors should take heed and start their own travel channel. They could get some of their ideas for shows on some of the discussions here... I'd look forward to "Top Ten Places for Closeted Lesbians" or "How to Avoid Stepping on a Razor in Your Hotel Room".

Diana, that was hysterical!

Samantha Brown is the most annoying figure on television along with that idiot that does the $40 a day on the food channel.

How about "Best Places To Kiss" on the Travel Channel? They acted like a couple but she was a total bitch and he was flaming gay. It would have been a lot better if they had not tried to act like a couple.

I found Samantha Brown to be extremely irritating at first, but now I kinda like her. Or maybe its her job that I like. I love it when you can tell that she is disappointed in her hotel room but still has to say nice things about it - she usually has to resort to talking about how great the water pressure is or something like that.

For the upwardly "mobile" there is a rerun of "Millionaire Trailer Parks" showing right now, followed by "Outrageous Millionaire Services". The Travel Channel is tabloid t.v. pablum. I am deselecting this channel from my favorites list right now and suggest doing the same until they bring back some decent programming.

I used to watch more Travel Channel, but too much Vegas and poker sent me to other channels. I'd say that even the "Top 10 Public Bathrooms" was better than poker. I must admit that I got hooked on "Get Packing" for about a month, and then got tired of the jerks who criticized what was in their suitcases.

Samantha Brown, please go to some of the hotels we might actually afford.

Have you noticed how Rachel Ray (who I believe is on the food network) either doesn't tip or tips really poorly?

So Travel Channel and advertisers, if you're tuned in, those of us with money to spend on travel and hoped for quality information, are turning you off.

The Travel Channel wasn't always available in the city, so I used to go to my parent's house to watch it. They used to have great shows about Italy, France, and many exotic places.

You can include me with the others who feel it is no longer good. It has become such a dissapointment. Who the hell wants to watch a poker game on TV?

All of the reasons why I longed to have the Travel Channel included in our cable package are all the reasons why it's been a big disappointment. If it wasn't featuring "beaches" (actually more of a Playboy photo shoot), it was delving into Las Vegas, AGAIN. Now with the poker games, more Las Vegas, I don't even stop at the Travel Channel, I just surf on by. I want travelogues, a camerca on the street, on the path, on the water, showing me new destinations I CAN AFFORD, and places I've visited and would like to visit again vicariously. We're channel surfers, we don't consult a guide and plan what travel shows to watch later. So, if when we flip through the channels there's nothing of interest, we keep on going. The Travel Channel has turned out to be one of the biggest wastes of a spot on our dial.

Didn't you all hear? The Travel Channel is sponsored by the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Okay, I don't know for sure, but why else would their programming be so Vegas-centric?

Ugh, I thought it was just me, but the continuous parade of Vegas and Poker shows is highly annoying. I made the complaint to my husband just a week or two ago and he claimed to hear or read somewhere that these poker shows were actually highly viewed. But what do they have to do with travel??

What ever happened to Burt Wolfe? I used to like his shows that combined both love of travel to beautiful locations and food. It was one of his shows that inspired me to visit the Canadian Rockies.

I find John Ratzenberger's Made in America to be entertaining. I like seeing how things are made, however I'm not sure many of these places are available for actual tours.

The Travel Channel has a message board where someone from their staff also posts a reply. It may be a good forum for directing our dissatisfaction in the right direction. Check it out: http://travel.discovery.com/conversa...ersations.html

The travel channel has become trashy, like much of American culture. Too bad. It was pretty sophisticated and informative once upon a time.
