Who collects travel magnets?

I have a few. I like the ones with a scenic picture. I used to love Morro Bay when I was a kid and lived in the San Joaquin Valley, so last spring when we passed through, I bought one of Morro Rock to remind me of my carefree days B.F.(before Fodor's). J.

I have some hand-carved wooden ones from Acadiana (Louisiana). I treasure those.

jetset1 Jul 29th, 2006 01:09 PM

I have some moose nugget ones Bayou, but they are stocking stuffers and not suitable for my fridgie widgie![-X

BayouGal Jul 29th, 2006 01:19 PM

I wanted to buy DD some nugget (moose) earrings last summer while in Alaska last year, but she did not find that very humorous. I, however, thought they'd make great conversation pieces for her senior year. Teens?! What do they know?! LoL

My refrigerator door is filled with ones I've gotten at the various national parks...seeing them brings back nice memories.

seetheworld Jul 29th, 2006 01:37 PM

Well, I did a magnet "purge" a few years ago, so now I only have two -- a kangeroo from Australia and one from Bermuda (that has fallen and been glued a dozen times). Oh, and then there is the one from our Fodor's GTG. That's 3. :D

L84SKY Jul 29th, 2006 01:49 PM

My husband loves them. There's nothing I can do about it but be grateful it's not coffee mugs.

BayouGal Jul 29th, 2006 01:52 PM

You got that right, L84SKY. I used to be a p.s. teacher and still have mugs coming out of the whazoo! :)

L84SKY Jul 29th, 2006 02:04 PM

Well, BayouGal, you can always swap them with the other, "World's Best Teacher"!

jetset1 Jul 29th, 2006 04:47 PM

How about those spoon people?lol. Now I like spooning, but not having a freaky case of them on my wall.(sorry spooners)..:)

matnikstym Jul 29th, 2006 04:51 PM

I collect toothpicks from all over the world. You might think they are all the same, but there are subtle differences say in a New Zealand toothpick compared to a South African toothpick.

My son collects them. His favorite is a TBC from Graceland. That's Taking Care of Business to those non believers. He also collects snow globes. My daughter has a lovely collection of silver charms. She's not quite 4 and she has two bracelets full. My favorite is old Busch stadium and a Socks the Cat from Little Rock. I actually think this is my favorite tradition with her; how I wish I'd collected charms from my travels, even though I didn't go anywhere much as a kid.

mooselywild Jul 30th, 2006 04:32 AM

My grandpa collects shot glasses(cool), my grandmother collects magnets(never saw the point), and I collect postcards ('cause something always happens to my camera and pc's are cheap and easy) and quality silver charms when I have the money.

Moose earrings- LOL, Bayougal! I'd've totally worn them my Senior year- my sister on, the other hand, thinks charm bracelets are "geeky". I can just imagine her reaction to moose jewelry:) Teens...<rolls eyes>

Great thread, jetset!

I'm a magnet collector. I have about 25 from all over. I also have a national parks passport. I wish I got this a bit earlier, b/c I don't have stamps from Crater Lake, or Redwoods, and they aren't exactly the most accessible of the national parks!

MelissaBeckoff Jul 30th, 2006 07:34 AM

We collect them.We have them from all over the United States.
We are going to Europe next month.
Do they have magnets ?
Melissa

My mom collects thsm. Her refrigerator is getting pretty full. They are always a great conversation starter and they bring back memories.

Fodorite018 Jul 30th, 2006 07:55 AM

I had a collection of magnets, but now we have a stainless steel fridge so they are in the box. BUT this thread reminded me of them and we have a new freezer in the garage I can put them on. Won't my DH be happy? ":D

Melissa--Yes, they are all over Europe. I have quite a few from there and those are my favorites.

We buy magnets and mugs on our trips. I display the mugs at my desk at work and the magnets hold pictures on our refrigerator. Its a little tacky but its fun!

jetset1 Jul 30th, 2006 07:13 PM

changing the theme a bit(huh? I'd do THAT???)
Who has screen savers from a favorite destination? I love seeing a tropical beach in the midst of our winter, it helps me stay focused in case we get a good spring break trip!:)

BayouGal Jul 30th, 2006 07:58 PM

I have a photo of DH and I dancing at an anniversary party 5 years ago on my desktop. BTW, J, that's the same time that photo you saw was made, so I am a little older in that photo than I thought. I change my desktop photos pretty often. Before that I had a photo of Homer, then the Tetons.
