Whitter/Seward suggestion please

I am driving from Anchonrage (day 1) and then staying two nights in Seward. Hiking up exit glacier(day 1), taking 7.5 major marine cruise(day 2). Then I am driving to Matnuska glacier recreation area on day 3 to my accomodation at sutton. I was wondering if I should drive to whittier or just back to anc -> sutton. I am going to be there this weekend and the weather is not all that great :(
Questions:
1. will it make it hectic if i try to drive to whitter (to see the harbor) and town? and is it worth it?
2. Are there other things to do? Having taking a glacier/wild life cruise in seward. Did not want to do another cruise in whittier.

Thanks

What to do in Seward when it's raining

10 Ways to Spend a Rainy Day In Seward - AK on the GO

Whittier is the only town in AK we would not care to visit again. Don't forget you have to plan a visit based on the times the one way tunnel is open in the direction you wish to go. It's a former secret military base so although the old concrete buildings have an interesting background, they are also ugly. I thought the visitors center at Portage Glacier was interesting. Listen to the recordings of people who experienced the terrible quake. Spend more time in Anchorage, maybe browse the Title Wave bookstore for some books based in Alaska.

When will this be?

Unless you want to go on a glacier cruise out of Whittier, I'd just skip it.

On the way to Sutton I'd stop in Eklutna (2/3 of the way to Palmer) to visit the Native cemetery next to the old Russian church. The brightly painted "spirit houses" over the graves are very interesting.

Agree with dfrostnh on Whittier. After about 10 days self-touring, our cruise left from Whittier. It is strangely creepy and interesting to see - concrete block buildings, one of which serves as apartments, schools and retail. Everything is grey. It looks like what I imagine remote outposts in old USSR would have looked like. But not worth a visit, especially with tunnel access being regimented. Spend more time in any of your other places instead.
