WHITEWATER RAFTING IN EARLY JUNE
Our family is considering a summer whitewater rafting trip in early June and wondering if any of you have recommendations of where to go in the United States during that time period. We will have beginners and experience rafters so we need to have a variety of rapids and trips to choose from.
THank you!! |
Look into the Lehigh River in the Pocono Mountains in Pennsylvania. I think it would be a good river considering you have beginners in your group.

We did the Snake River just outside of Jackson Hole. It was a lot of fun for a short trip. None of us had ever rafted although we're water rats. The water is very cold, even in August when we were there. I'd say it is a beginners trip that will have you wanting something more adventurous -- now we're itching to do the Grand Canyon. |
My husband has hosted a company rafting trip for about 15 years now.
The place of choice is always the Nantahala in North Carolina just above the North Georgia Mountains. Recently, they switched outfitters and now go with USA Raft. They have been extremely impressed. This excursion my husband hosts has become so popular that people even fly in for it. Have a wonderful time. |
Are you wanting one day trips or overniters?
I like the west (Rockys) better than east. Three states I would look at are Colorado, utah, and Idaho, There are lots more but these have a good varity Last year I rafted the yellowstone out of Gardiner MT. It is one of my favorites trips yet Get some vacation planers from the states you think you would like to visit This will help you know whats avialable |
Thank you all for your responses. These websites sure help with information.
My husband and two sons (19,16) would like to do some high adventure and have some experience. On the other hand, I would like to do something "fun" and safe with our other two children (10,8). About 20 years ago my husband and I went WW Rafting in West Virginia on class 4 and 5 rapids. I liked it then, but remember feeling a bit anxious. Rafting at that level now would not be enjoyable....I have become a wimp!! Anyhow, we are looking for a variety of levels....one for a fun, safe, but somewhat exciting family outing and then one for my husband and two older sons. At this point we are open to all places in the United States. Thank you for your time and suggestions! |
The Arkansas River in CO. might be good for your family
The royal Gorge Section section will surely thrill your husband and boys The section before is milder but still tons of fun In june you will need wetsuits This is a popular river lots of choices in outfitters Hope this helps |
If this posts twice I am sorry, but I responded to you and now can't find it
Check out these places: Ocoee River, Tennessee - White water event for the 1996 summer olympics held here. Nantahala River - Just up the road a piece in North Carolina Hiwassee River - Near the Ocoee...very slow float river. Little Pigeon River - Also in Tennessee in the Smokies area. |
Another question.....
Looking at some of the places that were recommended, I am concerned that if we wanted to enjoy "summer" (hot) weather in early June that a few of the spots would not be warm enough. With our timeshare there are several resorts in the Scottsdale/Phoenix/Sedona area and wondering if anyone has any information on WW Rafting in Arizona thru the Grand Canyon in early June. This would give our family the excitement of WW Rafting, but also, enjoy the nice hot weather of being poolside with a drink!! :-) Thanks again for all of your input. |
South Fork of the American River near Sacramento would be my first choice. Plenty hot enough for water activity in June, lots of different class rapids and white water. Cannot vouch for this vendor, as I can't remember who we used years ago, but here is an url just for some info about the rivers:
