HELP! NYC Itinerary & Dress Code Questions
My husband and I are going to New York City tomorrow for the first time.
Itinerary (suggestions, please?):
- Sat: Statue of Liberty, Dinner in Little Italy at Il Cortile
- Sun: Central Park, MOMA
- Mon: shopping in Greenwich Village, nice dinner out
- Tues: WTC site, Broadway show
- Weds: Return home
Has anyone been to Il Cortile? I'd like to what to wear and if my husband should wear shorts/polo shirt or pants/polo shirt.
Please respond quickly... Thanks in advance!

hi there!
i don't know about the restaurant specifically but you should just give them a call. i think to be safe, i would steer away from the shorts in general...the pants are way safer in NYC. you probably won't be turned away in shorts (especially as tomorrow will be swelteringly hot!) but you don't want to feel out of place. for the most part, NYC is about looking good.
your itinerary looks good. the WTC/broadway show combo might be a little tough...and you may want to take a look at the weather. you'll probably want to see the site when it's not pouring...whereas central park in the rain does have it's charms. as does shopping in the village.
good luck, have a great trip!

Thanks, Bengali! I think you're right... pants are a safer bet (was really just thinking of the heat with shorts)
Can you suggest attire for a Broadway show (matinee or weekday evening)?

Since it will be so hot, you may want to consider scheduling in a stop back at the hotel before dinner to change clothes, if it's not too far out of the way. It might be nice to have the rest after a day in the heat anyway.
As to Broadway attire - you will see everything from sweat pants to nearly formal wear (maybe not so much at matinees). If you'd like to dress up and make it an event, you won't be out of place. But if you go with a smart-ish casual outfit, you'll probably be dressed like the majority of others in the audience.

Shadow, I will post a trip report when I return next week.
FYI: I got a room at the Grand Hyatt on 42nd Street for $140/night on priceline.com. I don't expect it to be top of the line, but it's a significant discount from regular prices, especially over 4 nights.
