White Mountains - July
 

Planning a trip to the White Mountain area in July. What is the best place to stay .. Franconia, Conway, Jackson? Plan to stay in a B&B.

well, I like the Franconia area. I think its prettier, and a little quieter than Jackson/N. Conway. There is certainly more shopping, and more traffic in Conway. The two areas aren't too far apart, so you can visit one from the other.

We stay always in the Conway area, not in town, as it is more central for all hikes we do. It really depends what is a goal of your visit. For hikers I would recommend Pinkham Notch, Conway area Conway area along route 16. For shoppers the town of Conway is the best place to stay.

I like the Jackson area. Lot of nice B&Bs and great scenery and a lot to do.

If you are not locked into a B&B I might suggest you look into Attitash. We stayed in a condo type resort, very reasonable for the summer, had 2 pools, fitness area, Attitash with many activities right across the street. You are about a 10 minute drive from North Conway, which you can take a back road into to avoid much of the traffic, and less than that from Jackson.

There's no place like Jackson.Beautiful, peaceful village. We stayed at the Covered bridge motel but there are wonderful B& B's in the village.Paul

I second Jackson. Stay in the Loop.

You can walk to 4 or 5 great restaurants/bars. The Red Fox has a kids only dining room and play area. The Shannon Doer is also great for families - Fri/Say they have a sing along with an Irish singer.

It's two minutes from Storyland and a few steps to the golf course. Less than 10 minutes to the Alpine slide at Attitash and North Conway Outlets.

There is a great little store - groceries/wine/sandwiches & snacks.

It's like you have taken a step back in time. Very picturesque. Hike from your door.

Oh my gosh,,,,,,,Storyland is still OPEN???? A favorite memory of mine is a day at Storyland. A fun place to visit for kids.

YOu also might consider places near Meredith, Laconia and Center Harbor (pronounced Centa Haba, lol). From there you are also close to The FLume, Old Man of the Mountain and Indian Head. I know Old Man of the Mountain is currently undergoing a "facelift", sorry had to add that, lol, as part of the poor guys face fell not long ago. Happens to all of us sooner or later.

In the Meredith area take a tour of the Annalee Doll Factory, as you will see the dolls all over NH. We even have some stores here in NYC that carry Annalee, and they always bring back some nice memories as well. When you see them you will understand they are very recognizable.

Also you might want to have dinner at Harts Turkey Farm in Meredith, not far from Lake Winnepasaukee. If you are there for July 4th there's a nice fireworks display on the lake.

If your trip is for only a few days, Franconia or Jackson would be excellent. If you have a week, split it up.

If you have two weeks, consider a few night somewhere along Lake Winnepesaukee.

I love Hart's Turkey farm - now that brings back childhood memories!!!

As kids we did two weeks a year in NH. Week one at on Winnepasauki and week two in Jackson.

We were able to fit in all the attractions including the annual climb up Tuckerman's Ravine.
