White Mountains in April
We are planning to spend one week in the North
Conway area of New Hampshire. The first few days we will be with our three grandsons, ages 4,6,and 9 and their parents. Most attractions for children do not open until late May. We would appreciate suggestions for things to do with the boys. Also, we need a reasonably-priced restaurant for Saturday evening. Any help would be appreciated. and |
You might explore Yankee Magazine's website. I saw a model train museum listed in Intervale, just north of N Conway. My sister and her family love Funspot which is located near Weirs Beach. They have an indoor arcade, bowling, etc and are open year round. You might consider a day trip to Portsmouth's Children's Museum or the lego display in Manchester. Might be time to do a jigsaw puzzle and board games. There is also the Remick Museum much closer in Tamworth NH, but we haven't been there. Polly's Pancake Parlor in Sugar Hill would be fun and a visit to the candy store in Littleton (Chutters). Check the Thursday or Sunday edition of the Manchester Union Leader for events. You didn't say when in April you will be here. Wild NH Day in Concord is April 30.

Thanks, DHfrost for all of your suggestions.
We will be in North Conway on April 21-28. The grandsons will be with us that first weekend, then they are back to school. I will print out your response for future reference. |
As you know April in White Mountains is off season. Be ready to include lots of indoor activities. April in White Mountains can be a sad, wet, grey, rainy month. You may have snow or warm weather but there are no leaves on trees yet. More likely it is going to be wet. Watch out for black ice on those mountain roads. We go there often but only for outdoor activities so I don't have any recommendations for things to do with small kids indoor. dfrostnh gave some interesting ideas although some of them are located a quit a distance from Conway. Of course, you can always go shopping. There is a great restaurant just on the border of NH and ME, I think it is in Fryburg, ME on route 302. Maybe 10-+ miles from Conway. As you are driving from Conway it is going to be on your left side. Look for the inn (I forgot its name). We always had excellent gourmet dinners there. They are not inexpensive but I think they have children items on a menu. Concord is too far for a day trip with small kids from White Mountains, IMO. Good luck
