White-Knuckles over mountain passes?
 

On our recent trip to Colorado I found myself cringing and getting light headed as we went over Red Mountain Pass..(and other steep hairpinned passes). Actually, I wanted to jump out of the car!<BR>Does anyone else feel that way while travleing thru the mts?<BR>Has anyone ever heard of autos plunging over to top?

Go slow and they aren't too bad...never beenover Red Mt.`pass though.

I get pretty nervous about those passes, too. Red Mountain seems to have hail or snow on the road almost every time we drive it. The lack of guardrails at the point where the cliffs are the highest and sharpest is the part that's scary to me.<BR><BR>A lot of locals (including my husband and me) won't drive it in the winter. A few think it's no big deal, even in winter. Surprisingly, only rarely do cars go over. I assume that if our driver isn't drunk, falling asleep, speeding, or driving on ice, we're pretty safe. That said, the less logical part of me gets quite nervous an a little queasy each trip.

Have someone else drive.

Yes. And Yes. (Actually not cars, a tour bus in Greece and an RV in WV)<BR>And I wasn't the driver.

I love this pass! I haven't been on a mountain pass that I didn't like yet. I don't usually drive, my DH does and he doesn't mind driving over the passes.<BR><BR>I wouldn't go if there was snow or ice on the road, but other wise I love driving in the mountains.<BR><BR>Utahtea
