While travelling through Vegas, Warren Jeffs was arrested.
 

I just heard this on the news. He was on the FBI 10 Most Wanted list (along with Osama).

Boy, talk about a strange story. Have you heard about the young boys/men they forced to leave their homes and families so their girlfriends could marry the old men? Creepy.

I don't usually respond to news items here because the follow up opinions get a bit much from the motley crew, but since a reputable non trouble maker "sweet as potater pie Bayou" posted it, I'm all in!

'Sides, it is relevant as my niece is getting married over the strip next month in a helicopter and I'm working out a way(okay, a bribe to close friends to watch the kids) so I can go for the reception..

You know, we gripe about things going on all over the world, but there are some awful practices right here in our own country.

I love Anderson Cooper but he started devoting way too much coverage to Warren Jeffs and I'm therefore way too familiar with him. I think AC thought it may turn into a Branch Davidian type of situation.

I just googled it and yes he was arrested. Clearly this dude is a pedophile and weirdo masquerading as a prophet.

I just read that he was arrested in a routine traffic stop. What a moron!!! lol

I am SO glad that got this guy. He has been notorious in CSJ postings for years and there are several more like him.

Believe it or not, these similar situations aren't just in the West- but usually aren't as large or as well publicized as this one is.

The economics of this are almost as bad as the social. The poor males have become adopted in a lot of cases as they have no monetary supports at a very young age, depending upon their size or attitude. Also the elders are in gravy monetarily from all the work performed by their "families".

This is just a drop in the bucket in the ongoing scandal of the "reform" church of latter day saints in the southwestern U.S. The judges, cops, and powers that be in the area are involved in the life and the coverup, and the abuse of welfare alone (let alone children) should have had the feds there in force years ago.
