Which Vegas show-Lance Burton or Blueman?

We're planning on seeing one show this August with 2 14 yr old boys and have narrowed it down to either Lance Burton or Blueman group. The boys say they enjoy magic, but I'm wondering if they might enjoy Blueman Group more. For those who've been to both, which you you recommned for a more entertaining evening? Are they comparable in price?

I would vote Lance Burton.

I have not been to either of these. However, I have heard lots of reviews that say they are both great. I think Blue Man may cost more. My family recently saw Blue Man and enjoyed it, but they said it wasn't worth the money. I think Lance Burton may have more variety.

Again these are just my thoughts based on hearing lots of friends' opinions.

Personally I would go to Danny Gans!

I would vote Blue Man Group for sure! To be honest though, I haven't seen the other show. Just wondering - did the pp's family see blue man group as a permanent show or the touring show? The touring show is horrible and completely different (andnot worth the money at all!) than the permanent shows in NY and Vegas (and Chicago too I think?) which I loved and would see again.

2 14 yr old boys would absolutely love the Blue Man Group show hands down! Esp in Vegas and interacting with the performance. They'll love the music, light/sound effects. BMG is worth the ticket price. If you go, hang out around the hallways and wait until they come out and get your picture taken w/ autograph (blue thumb print).

correction: you take your own pictures w/ your own camera so it's free afterwards and they just autograph your program or ticket stub. There is no picture taking allowed in the theatre.

My husband and 13-year old son just saw Blue Man Group in Las Vegas over spring break and my son is still talking about how much he loved it! It was one of the highlights of their trip.
I don't know how the prices compare. Blue Man has their own website where you can check prices for the night that you're interested in.

I saw both shows recently in Las Vegas, JLBRN.

The Lance Burton magic show was delightful - and reasonably priced! He's a very friendly, gentle person who puts on a good, wholesome show. I sure couldn't figure out how he managed some of his magic illusions.

The Blue Man Group was very expensive (i.e. over-priced). The action was essentially silly, with a lot of slapstick. The performers do a lot of hitting each other on the head with truncheons, there is very loud (i.e. dangerously loud) music, water being squirted into the audience, and similar commotion going on.

Which is better for teenage boys? Heaven only knows! You do too, I imagine. Curtain time; enjoy the show!

I've seen both shows and hands down, I liked Lance Burton MUCH more! But then again, it might be different for teenage boys. I've always thought that Blue Man Group is way overpriced for what you get and the show is not really that good. I mean, the guys don't even talk!! People have agreed that what they do is somewhat "stupid" comedy. I think it's more of a fad that so many people go to see them. Ask people if they would go back to see them again and I think you'll have your answer. I believe the tickets are pretty much the same as Lance Burton, maybe slighly higher.

If you like magic and illusions, you'll love Lance Burton. I think it's a much better deal.

Saw Burton last month. Very good. But if you're going to be in Vegas you must see Eau or Mystere...or both. They are expensive but you will not regret it and perfect for 14 year olds. Eau is at Belagio's and Mystere at Treasure Island. Get tickets in advance.

Blueman Blueman Blueman!!!! We took my daughters aged 12 and 16 there last summer and honestly it was the highlight of their trip. It is so different and innovative and we laughed until we hurt!

A word of warning though. I have heard that it is very much a love it or hate it deal with this show - depends how much you like traditional magic - personally I find Lance Burton terribly cheesy!

Just got home from Vegas. Husband, 23 & 17 Year old sons, 21 year old daughter and myself saw Blue Man. Worst show we have ever seen. My husband and I have been going to Vegas for over 15 years. O, Mystere, Danny Gans, Copperfield, Jay Leno, Amazing
Jonathan, Lance Burton are all excellent shows. Even the female impersonator show is better.
We have seen over a dozen shows and Blue Man is stupid. I was sick that I paid $500 for this show.

TravelTexan Aug 2nd, 2005 02:27 PM

I should have added a warning to my last post. Amazing Jonathan does contain offensive language, however nothing your boys have not heard on the bus or in the locker room at school. The other shows I mentioned are family friendly.

Cool!!! I'm not alone. Blue Man Group is good, but not $100/person good. I've read a lot about this guy Mac King. Anybody else seen his act?

hipvirgochick Aug 2nd, 2005 05:41 PM

That's a tough once since you indicate they like magic. However, if I didn't know that I would definitely say Blue Man Group. They won't stop talking about it! Yikes, I see you're going in August so maybe you already have tix. Have a great time!

sylvia3 Aug 2nd, 2005 07:38 PM

I agree with my brother in law--the first 10 minutes of the Blueman show is great. The rest is a yawn.

JLBRN Aug 4th, 2005 07:53 PM

Tix are already bought....for Lance Burton. We're going in 3 weeks. I DO think the boys would've enjoyed Bueman, but I was being selfish. It didn't sound appealing at all to me.

SAnParis Aug 5th, 2005 04:15 AM

I think you made the right choice. A cheaper & better alternative to Blueman is Stomp. Another show the boys would certainly enjoy is the Amazing Jonathan.

I find the shows in Las Vegas for the most part to be overpriced, but Lance Burton's was a good show & well worth it. We also enjoyed Jubilee at Bally's but of course, not for 14-year olds.

Did NOT really enjoy any of the Cirque shows there - none were as good as the one we saw on Randall's Island a couple of years ago.

vegasnative Aug 5th, 2005 01:20 PM

I know the tickets have already been bought...but I would have gone to Blue Man Group for several reasons. Sometimes (a lot of times) in Vegas kids (under 21) feel as though they don't belong and they may get bored with the casino midway areas. Blue Man Group is probably the PERFECT show for teenage boys. I have seen almost all the shows here and I can't think of any other one that they would probably walk away from that "they" really enjoyed. My husband loved it, I thought it was "ok"...starting to see the picture (might be a guy thing). Don't want to give anything away but the mess that is made during the show and especially at the end (TP) they would have loved. I liked Lance Burton, but it still was not the best show in town. Someone recommended the cirque shows, I would not for teenage boys, they will think it is too artsy.

JLBRN Aug 29th, 2005 01:26 PM

I'm the original poster who just returned from Vegas and thought I'd mention I found the Lance Burton show to be cheesy and lackluster. I was afraid the boys would agree and would be disappointed with the evening....but they loved it! They even got to participate on stage and are still 'studying" the magic DVD Lance gave them as a parting gift.
