Which town to stay in between Washington DC and Asheville NC?

Hi,

I am planning my trip for next year. I'm staying in Arlington and then want to travel the Skyline Drive and end up in Asheville, NC. Mapquest gives me a drive time of 8 hrs. So I would like to stop off for one night, but I'm not sure where?

Any ideas?

Laura

I suggest you to stop at either Winston Salem or Greensboro, NC. They are very nice cities. You can also stop in Shennandoah but it will take you more time. Hope you enjoy this info.

8 hours from Arlington to Ashville via the Skyline Drive/Blue Ridge Parkway? That is pretty optimistic. Lots of nice places in the Roanoke Valley

Very close to the VA/NC border on the Parkway there are a couple of wineries Villa Appalachia & Chateau Morrisette & there are many cabins, B & B's etc. in that area. Look around Galax, Hillsville, Mt. Airy. Many things can be found by searching 'Blue Ridge pkwy' on the web. Although I'm not crazy about the wine @ Chateau Morrisette there restaurant is very good. Villa Appalachia has more Italian leanings & I believe they both have web-sites as well.
